WV&K 119 in Revenue Service

The Day before New Years Eve West Virginia & Kentucky Class D Shay No 119 was spotted, freshly shopped in the new company paint working a coal drag…

She’s doing her own yardwork this bright sunny morning, building a train to take up the mountain…

Taking a curve only a Shay could look comfortable on …

After the train is made up, she’s Eastbound from Pearce Yard to Buchanan seen here passing into Pearce Junction

Having eased her way up to the yard limits, she’s ready to open the throttle and assult the grade up to Buchanan

Having crossed the bridge, she whistles for the Buchanan Yard limits…

So the tipple is still imaginary here, er planning stages that is, and the track is still under construction. 119 has run around a cut of cars and spotting them for loading.

Cars spotted, 119 has run round the cabin and is in the process of building the train for the trip back to Pearce…

A freshly painted hopper is in front of the 119…

A little more switching and spotting and the 119 will be back on her way down the mountain…

Looking good !

I see you redid the curve going into the yard and started on the by-pass. How’s the mallet handling it now? Are all the trucks powered on that thing?

Nice run, Bart…

Thanks for sharing, your work always inspires me.

3 outta 4 trucks are powered and she handles that curve just fine…the Connie chasis will go round the inside curve, but still won’t go through the wye…

A nice operation. I thought you had re-done the wye?

It sure looks like you had a nice day for it.

Most railroads have some power equipment that is limited by radius or weight from working in or on some areas. Sounds prototypical to me.

I’ve got 54 inches of compacted snow on my layout. :frowning:
