I’m looking for a small tender to put behind one of my Bachmann Porters, just to have one different from the other two.
Joe have you considered a gondola from hartland? I have one that I run behind my Stainz when it heads out onto the main and it looks pretty good. They are also cheap. Add some coal and close off part for water and there you go.
Just an idea.
Joe, I built my own tender using a Heartland flat car.
Dave,
That tender of yours looks great. My modeling skills are not as good as yours are. I would need a knuckle coupler on the rear and a draw bar. I don’t think the HLW cars would be easily adaptable, but I’m not sure as I haven’t seen the bottom.
Thanks Joe.
The curved parts of the tender are cut from a PVC water pipe. The flat parts are flat ABS. And the gaps are filled with my favorite product…Bondo. The tender has a Kadee on the back end, and I modified a hook and loop coupler to act as the draw-bar. The loop is on the locomotive (without a hook) and a pin is attached to the underside of the tender that drops into the loop.
Its a suggestion if you don’t come up with a suitable tender. 2 Years ago at the ECLSTS, I nabbed 2 of the smaller Bachmann tenders, the ones for the 2-4-2. Thing is I needed 3 of them. Loose tenders don’t seam to be easy to come by.
Joe, If you wanted a LGB Powered Tender I know where there is a couple for sale.
LAO
Joe, would an Aristocraft C-16 tender work? I have one that is just the shell and floor, you would have to supply trucks though. They may be a little long but could be cut down if needed.
One other option is the Aristo slope back tender, it looks very at home behind the biggish Porter

Aaron,
That might work just fine behind a Bachmann Porter 0-4-0. Contact me at joe at zullo dot net, or message me here and we can close the deal, and Thank you.

Vic,
Yes the Aristo slope back tender would be great but the ones I am seeing for sale are a little pricey for this conversion (if you get my drift).
Theres one on their now at $45. Little steep but its NIB
I saw that one too Vic. With the shipping it’s over $60. I don’t need the sound and light that this new one includes, that’s why they are a little pricey. I passed on another for $60 w/free shipping too.
Considering how many of those were made and how many engines have gone bad there should be a steady stream of the tenders on fleabay.
Yeah, you would think so, but that’s not the case.
I used the LGB toytrain tender behind my small locos. Looks good to me.
