WTB LGB Mikado parts

A recent thread got me to thinking…Why not ask the forum? So here goes…

I am desperately searching for some LGB Mikado parts. None of the “usual sources” have been able to locate these. Anyone have a dead/trashed Mikado?

I need:

  • The two vertical grab bars on the back of the cab.

  • 1 front mounted bell (Same one on some starter set 0-4-0/2-4-0 engines).

  • 1 pilot/cow-catcher assembly.

  • 1engine/tender connector cable (mounts inside the boiler, plugs into the tender).

Worth a shot! Of course I would pay!

Thanks!

Mark, have you talked to Dave Watts of Watts Train Station in Zionsville, Indiana? He has quite a bit of junkers ect from collections they have canabalized for parts, he might have some or all of those items. If Dave isnt in, you can try to see if Ross is in, he does the repair work when he is not at Purdue in class. Mike

Thanks Mike…I have not tried Watts. Will do.

Train li has some parts and there is an advertiser in Garden Railway that works on LGB I think it’s trains by Klous.

Tried them both.

No luck.

Not giving up yet…

Mark, if you haven’t tried watts yet, don’t bother, I just got off the phone with them and they haven’t got anything left… I’m hoping to buy one one piece at a time (thank you johnny cash) to save a bit of money… not to mention that I plan to do some heavy modifications and it doesn’t make sense to me to buy more than what I really need.

Nico

Thanks Nico…I’ll give 'em a shout!

Mark, what are the center to center measurements on the grab irons? I have a sumpter valley mallet cab if they are the same they are yours. I also have the bell off same said loco which you can have as well if it is what you are looking for.
I also saw this on ebay: LGB loco cable

Terry

Terry,

Your help is most appreciated.

I need to clarify…

The “grab irons” are the long vertical bars that run from just below the roof to below the level of the cab floor. These are what the engineer would grab onto to swing outside the cab.

The bell on the SV Mallet stands vertical rising out of the top of the smoke box, on my UP Mikado it is mounted “horizontal” extending out from the front of the smoke box.

The cable for the Mike is an odd one…4-wire and about 11" long. It mounts inside the boiler and plugs into the tender. Only one end is accessible without disassembly of the engine.

Again, I appreciate your help!

Mark
