Large Scale Central

WSRR 2021 Mik's Build Challenge Fuel Tank

Almost there! Spent the last week painting and weathering, not my favorite thing to do but someone had to do it (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)All the barrels, gas cans and pump were designed and 3D printed along with all the NBW’s, stake pockets and tank straps. Some of you may recognize the cut stone used on the foundation for the trestle bents and the pump house were used as the starting point for a previous MIK. I had some leftover but had to cast a few more to have enough. Still have to trim up the stone on the trestle and paint it and paint the ladder. I’ve got all the bits and pieces for all the piping including the fill hose and nozzle. The plumbing fittings are washing now and will get them out and allow to dry over night. I’ll get them cured tomorrow evening and painted. Maybe by Tuesday, I’ll have all the final touches done and then I can concentrate on getting it all mounted on a board with some scenery. Let me know if you see anything that needs attention. Thanks for following along.

Excuse all the clutter in the background, I’ll straighten it all up just before next year’s MIK (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Great weathering looks great

Nicely done, Dan! I particularly like the rusting on the white barrel with the blue band.

This just screams “awesome.” Kid-zilla’s Diesel Dan would love a facility like this!

Other than a couple final little details that are printing now, I’m done. Although I did manage to get everything mounted on a board, I won’t get the dirt placed but that is fine with me. I’ll get to it another day.

Here is the tank fill connection…

This is the business end of the fill hose. One of the details on the printer is a holder for it that I’ll get attached tonight.

This is the piping coming from the pump house to the tank …

Just a little connection detail …

Piping coming going to tank …

Tank fill connection and hose connection …

And finally, an overall shot …

I’ll add all the accessories for the glamour shots later this week. This has been a fun build as all MIK projects have been. Thanks for following along and all the great comments.

Nice pipes!

Jim likes your pipes

And he’s never heard me sing (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

“Oh, yeah, and by the way, I added some pipes,” said Dan. Alright, Pal, you aren’t getting away that easily. I want to know in great detail how you did those pipes and hoses. My pathetic attempts with flexible tubes and straws and whatever don’t come close to this.

Unfortunately, John, that is a closely held family secret. Now I could tell you but then I’d … well, you know what I’d have to do (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The hose is simply a piece of 3/16 nylon rope cut to length and painted black. The pipes, valves and fittings, well … I sorta cheated there … they are 3D printed.

You devil!

Well, that didn’t work … so, I’ll try again (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

You did a nice job on that diorama. I can almost smell the grimy oil from here!
