This year the boys in the WSRR’s shop are going to build Leroy’s Transfer and Warehouse. It will be a two story warehouse structure with an attached office and rail loading dock. The office will be heated with an open hearth fireplace so it will definitely need a chimney. Obligatory napkin drawing attached.
Ok, here is the first rendering of Leroy’s. Still a lot of detail to go like doors, windows, stairs, hoist beam and a deck mounted hoist to name a few. But you get the over all feel of the project. Here is a view from the front. Rails service will be provided from the front.
There will be a hoist mounted on the front right corner of the deck. Aaaarhhgggggg, I just noticed that I have got to make the interior floors level with the deck. I’ll get that fixed in round 2. That’s a nice benefit of 3D modeling is yo can see some of the design issues before you commit to cutting material.

Actually, there will be a set of stairs and a landing above the first floor door. Just haven’t got to them yet.

Here is the beginnings of the single drum double purchase hand winch model for the jib crane. Once the model is complete and working, I will 3D print all the parts.

You didn’t know this, Dan, but one of my cousins is a building inspector for Chambers County. He says your chimney doesn’t need to be taller than the overall structure, which would ordinarily be required, because it is far enough away from the main structure that it doesn’t present a fire hazard from sparks.
I just thought you’d be relieved and happy to hear that.

Right, most building codes I have delt with over the years require the flue/chimney to be 1 foot higher than anything within 10 feet horizontally. Not much progress to show for the first few days of the build. Had liquid sunshine to deal with most of the weekend (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)But we did get a little done. Here is the first floor of the main warehouse stuck together (not glued yet). For some size perspective, this structure is ~15" deep, 9 1/2" wide and 7" tall. There will be another floor identical in size on top of this one, the roof, plus two other smaller structures attached so it will be the largest structure I’ve built to date for the RR. The photos are actually from the back.
