Wreck on the NMNRR

Got the pike wiped into shape, And invited a couple of friends over to run for the first time this spring. I had a work train out and running, Ron Nott came over with his 4-4-0 live steamer that he had got over the winter and wanted to run. He fired it up, fiddled about and I cleared the main, and sent him out.

OOPS.

I failed to reset the switch, to main, He has no RC in the thing, and it was on auto pilot…

No major damage(except to egos), and a urinalizes will reveal the real reason.

Not such a good way to start the running season.

Larry Brewer brought over his new ( never run before) model of the 'Casey Jones" railcar that he had just completed. Nice Model ( from scratch ). Had some running gear problems.

But check out the carrying case…

Its battery powered, with a small RC (from a model car aka Todd ) unit,

Check out the handle Neat idea.

So you want to make your own rail?

And a good time was had by all…

There has to be crashes here and there to keep things lively Gomez!! At least it looks like the expensive steamer is OK. a ego is a inexpensive item to repair! It could have been worse if they met on the tall trestle!

I like how Larry’s railcar came out and that box and handle is really cool and clever.

In my other RC car from scratch build I too had problems with my drivetrain. The one I made for the build contest was a direct drive unit and works well. Getting the power to the rails is just another bug to be worked out.

Happy RRing

oooops!

Dave,

OMG did the brakeman on the caboose survive the crash? I think I have his brother working on the HDRR…

amateurs… call Stan Cedarleaf or JJ and they’ll show you how it’s done.

Glad there was no real damage, except to your nerves

After seeing these train wrecks I was inspired to run trains when I got home. I cleaned up the tracks of major twigs and sent the plow around for the leaves well I missed something… and when the tain ran over it the wheels started slipping and got smeared, well one of the dogs left me a present right on the main and my NW2 found it!! I guess I don’t call it the Rock Root and Pup Poop RR for nothing. I would have rather had a derailment.

UGH!!!

Since I run track power and battery I’m very careful to keep those swiches aligned to main. I have enough to repair!

I just got a new Mac Mini and 24 inch screen so I can see what I’m doing online! Everything is right with the world!

@mike Yes that was the 2012 build challenge winning caboose #801, I build to run, and accidents like that (though rare) happen to the cars that you run all the time. Good little caboose, but it will never be a shelf queen.

Yup Joe, the Bachman twins, both got into railroading at a young age. Did you know that they are the cousins of some guy named “Mario” some plumber type? The family resemblance is amazing,

Glad the crash didn’t damage any equipment. I’m usually not so lucky.
