Wrapping air tanks

Since I seem to be making a never ending stream of tanks for my locs I have been pondering another way to wrap and hold the 20 thou detail cladding. I usually wrap a blank layer of 20 thou around the PVC pipe using CA and then another one with the detail using MEK, this allows tome to manipulate the cladding before it sets. I’ve tried various methods and this is what I come up with now. Its dead easy. One could use it for boilers as well I suppose. Take a piece of what ever tube you used for the carcase of your tank. Slit it down the centre and take out about a 1/4. Stretch the ID a little so it will sit snug around your tank with the cladding without the ends digging in. I cut one end to help with the next stage.

Here it is on the left. After gluing the bottom feed it in to the former so that you have a little sticking out so you can get you paws on it to twist it.

You can now dab the cladding with glue as you twist it, the pressure lets the glue run in and stick the cover with no irregualrities

When you have gone all the way around like this. Turn it around so the seam is on the bottom, like so

Finally push the tank all the way in and allow to dry.

Not a machine in sight  Cheers
