Forest thats a diesel loco with an electric hook up for the coffee pot.

A picture I got a charge out of!

I am astounded by that photo - and on the SNCF as well, one of the most safety-conscious and safe railroad companies on the planet.

A tank car immediately behind a loco?

I wonder what can be in it?

Uh, hello!!! That’s the capacitor they use for back-up power when the track gets dirty.

Hey tac,

Notice that sun shade roof on the tanker? That’s what they used to have on the old tankers used for transporting wine.
Looking at the increase of production and consumption the size would not be out of the question.

Wonder if they have a pipeline through to the loco cab for refuelling the crew?

If that is a hazmat carrying tank it would be illegal in the states to place directly behind the loco. Ge what idiots. Later RJD

This just in, from Kathy, it’s compressed air for the on-board wind generator.

Well different strokes for .....

A bit of digging - still can’t make out the company name - makes me believe it is a compressed gas car with a heat shield.

What’s with the French guys not providing the details in the first place? Merde!

BTW RJ I’ll have to dig up the report on the Mississauga derailment (Nov 1979) which led to drastic changes regarding the position of haz mat cars in mixed freights.

I also tried searching for some info about the tank car: I am also unable to decipher the name on the car.

There is the possibility that it has been, or is going, for some kind of maintenance and has no load other than maybe inert gas as a preventative measure.
