Large Scale Central

World's largest yacht?

When traveling on my Heritage line today I saw this vessel in the river at one of the terminal stations - Kingswear, which is opposite to Dartmouth from where many set sail for the New World. The views are looking towards Kingswear and the Heritage steam train can be seen in one of the 'photos.

It was remarked that if I had not purchased so many items of large scale railroad stock maybe I could have one of those ‘boats’. I am a landlubber and prefer railroads to nautical things.

Nice boat, if you care for that sort of thing.

His Mrs is a distant relation of ig, or so he tells me.

Nice bucket but…what STEAM TRAIN is that in the 2nd pic background? ??

A hole in the water to throw money into.

It could be one of two locomotives running this week Victor. Either 4277 (Hercules) or sister loco 5239 (Goliath). They are ex-Great Western Railway 2-8-0T locomotives that were primarily built to haul coal trains in the Welsh valleys. The line is steeply graded: it is around seven miles in length and rises from sea level up to the half way (approx.) point 200ft. asl then back down to sea level once over the hill. The locos were not named during their GWR and British Railways life but were named by the Heritage line (much to the annoyance of ‘purists’).

5239 appears head on in this link. The smoke box is black but the locos are GWR Brunswick Green in color.
