The Challenger is heading east to St Louis(from Cheyenne) on 8 Oct, coming back thru here in Nebraska on the 13th. Then goes back east(from Cheyenne) to Council Bluffson 9 Nov and back on the 13th. It has not been out in a couple of years. UP’s steam site has a trace and you can follow it. Be warned, it is sometimes about 20 minutes off, so don’t cut it too fine!

Cool it will be stopping in St. Louis and going right by my borthers house. time to make sure the cam corder is working and put new batts in the camera as well. cant wait to see it.

Well the MoPac Historical Society is having there annual convention on Oct 8 & 9 in Sedalia so maybe some of those folks will arrive early and be able to take part in the festivities near there. Later RJD

Where are the pictures? We need pictures.

Hasnt come thu yet. I will post pictures as soon as it does. Its not untill Oct 6th that it will pass St. Louis.

Oct 1 here in central Nebraska.

If any of you have around $12K-14K lying around doing nothing, you could do worse than getting in touch with Jim down at Southern Steam Trains, and putting your name down for a live-steam Gauge 1 Aster model of the Challenger. Three road-numbers are planned - two in black, and, if there is enuff interest, the ‘Greyhound’ grey and yellow lined-out version.

Right now Aster is testing the water for maybe a total of fifty, but one thing is certain, within ten years you’ll be paying double or even triple today’s price to get one.

Tac, I think you left off the K behind the numbers, or a lot of zeros!

Thats nearly a 70 car train if you count the aux tenders and the dismal.

Very Impressive

Stan

Many thanks Stan for posting the link.

An enjoyable video - some train length! How many Circus Train Sets would be needed for a train like that. lol

Kevin Morgan has taken some good pics of the train on the Greeley Sub.

Wish it would come out East. Fat chance of that ever happening. I notice no diesel protection. Interesting

No dismal protection, huh?

Who needs pesky dismals anyhow?

I think you’ll find that lose two 'canteen’s behind the loco are actually stand-by battery packs for when the MAIN batteries in the tender run down. 'tis said that the Seuthe smoke units in the Challenger are the largest they every made. Not a lot of people know that.

The conductor is actually the ‘Train Engineer’ if you get my drift…
