This video demonstrates a table saw that can stop the blade in 1/1000th of a second when it senses something conductive (like a finger) as opposed to something insulative (like wood.)
There was much discussion of these on that other site. Its also been on “Cool Tools” a lot lately. Pretty nice and pricey for $1600 but I guess your lunch would be safe if you dropped it on the blade .

I’ve seen the demo of it stopping without eating a hotdog. You try it with your finger, I’ll watch with phone in hand.
See even a tablesaw is scared of whats in a hotdog…
These came out several years ago. There was lots of hub-bub about them then, too. I prefer to be respectful around tools, and I’ll keep the $1600 for other things, TYVM.
I’ve always tried to be respectful around any power tools, however, my table saw jumped up and bit my thumb, a few years back… Took out a triangular chunk of meat, during a kick back of a board… Luckily, i only keep the blade about 1/4 inch above what I am cutting, so the cut never touched the bone in the thumb, but did remove about 5 lbs of meat… Took 17 cauderizations to get it to stop bleeding… of course, now that area of the thumb, is very sensitive… Luckily, I am part frog , cause the wound filled itself back in and healed fine…
I also saw this saw advertised a few years back… Haven’t heard anything about it, till now…
It is a great safety feature. But with safety devices such as these comes the risk of complacency.
And any system can fail.
It probably won’t be long before it is a government mandated safety device.

I didn’t play the video but I’m guessing it’s Saw Stop or something like that. As stated already it is pretty neat and has been around a few years. There was also some questions on this product as to how it would react to wet wood such as PT stuff. Not to mention the blade is done if it drops. A friend and I were joking about the hotdog video awhile back. After they made that video he boiled the hotdog while changing the blade. Then choked on it!
I agree, I’d rather spend $1600 on something else…like 6 feet of track.
I’ve got a friend who could use one of those. Several years ago a table saw separate him from his thumb. He managed to grab up the thumb off the floor just before the dog got to it, and had it reattached. Then last year he wacked off another digit with a Saws-All. That too was sewn back on.
