Australia’s world record for the longest train has been has been overtaken by the South Africans this month using a combination of electric and diesel electric locomotives.
I found the Reddit post about the 696-wagon, 7.6 km South African train.
Anyone know what the longest large-scale train record is?
I wouldn’t want to be stopped at the crossing for that one! 
For large scale, there’ve been posts on that, but I couldn’t locate one…
At one time Dennis Sirrine’s Palo Verde &Southwestern RR had a record 152 car freight train pulled by 1 USA Trains Big Boy, I think I remember they said it could pull more but kept breaking KaDee couplers, and the loco started on a uphill grade
Might check with Marty Cozad as he has run some very long trains on his North Table Creek Railroad.
I think Aristo did 100 or more cars one year in York at ECLSTS. That’s probably not the record.
He hit 200.
