Welcome to the group, I am new too just joined not long ago. Very nice work. I will be building a bridge next, what size rod did you use on your bridge ? What engine is the number 26 with the bridge ? Its just what my wife and I are looking for. Thanks Mark

Nice work… welcome aboard !!!

It’s a little late this year, but next year the MIK Build Challenge awaits your entry…

Wow Joe,

As both a modeler and a wood worker you do awesome work.

Fantabulous, dude! Thanks for the outdoor pics. Great looking railroad!

@Joe1 Beautiful work. I have a few spots that cry out for something like that. I have the skills to build it, just lack the motivation!

Hi Mark. I used 3/32” carbon steel heliarc wire that is available from welding supply stores and some hardware stores. You probably will have to buy a pound. I threaded the rod with a 4-40 die and bought the nuts and washers from a hardware store. The locomotive is an early Bachman engine that the gears are stripped. I used 18-23 gauge pin nails and tire bound 3 wood glue to assemble. Thank you for the compliments.

Also. I tried threading un coated brass brazing wire but found it to be too soft to thread. I’m sure that there is brass rod out there on the internet, but for the amount of wire needed I think the cost would probably be to high.

Love the trestle and bridges, Joe. If you only have 15 hours in the bridge, ya done good. I’d have 15 hours of thinking and then 15 hours of studying and then 15 hours of imagining, etc, etc, etc and then maybe 15 hours of cutting and 15 hours of building, etc. Anyway great job.

BTW: Welcome to our little community. Most of us are sane, most of the time. Pay no attention to the Rooster that shows up from time to time. He’s a wealth of knowledge but otherwise relatively  harmless.

Tite bond wood glue and small c-clamps

Yes these things love leaves and see the thin wood missing or twisting

Holy cow Joe… Yeah, thanks for joining in!!

Man, I’ve never seen such extensive bridgework before, it’s truly amazing. And, a better solution than regrading the entire yard, right?

Suh-weet work!!!

Beautiful railroad Sean. I have to use a shop vac to clean all of my neighbors leaves out of my trestle.

Thanks
My trestle is made up of scrap cedar fencing from the trash pile of a fence company … :kissing_smiling_eyes:

My trestles are made from oak and cherry that I got a deal on and then treated with an outdoor wood sealer.

Got the bents done there is 39 of them. I will put side bracing on them when I set it up out side this spring.

Thats a lot of bents.

You didn’t tell him to get bent, Devon ?

Nice day out side so I worked on the trestle yesterday, today it’s raining and probably for several days.

Wow Beautiful especially with the truss bridge in the middle. My favorite style of bridge.

Thanks. Going to make stone/cement abutments for each end of the bridge.
