Woe is .... does someone have a violin? :)

When history gets rewritten it makes for “interesting” reading.

Soooo … who on LSC plays a violin??

I guess that I just don’t understand the mystique of ex-LGB. Can someone help me out?

"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, But give the devil his due: I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'Cause I think I'm better than you."

Run, boys, run … ol’ Muellerstopheles has got that redbox glint in his evil eye … and it’s gonna be a wild night on Bald Mountain … or whatever that pile of rock behind his lair is called …

Ooooh yes, “Machiavelli” is on the prowl (I can tell by the number of upset birds in the neighbourhood) and when the digital clock show 6:66 with the moon a-rising…

Quote from the geriatric moderator on another site - “Everyone is welcome to post their thoughts here and they can post those thoughts without fear of being attacked and having to defend their opinion. Of course, as with any family discussion, someone may have a different opinion and as long as we are only sharing differing opinions no one should feel offended, disrespected or suppressed – we all might end up better informed as a result.”

This is the same person who moderates any dissenters from posting on ‘his’ forum. This is the same moderator who suggested that a person posting a new topic should have the right to veto any responses.

I find it amazing that there now seems more reference to ‘LGB’ these days on the family forum (considering that the company no longer exists), than to ‘LGBoA’, which on last reports actually still does exist.

P.S. Now that I have posted a response that criticises the geriatric moderator on that site, then by definition, I must be a ‘LGB-hater’ and one of the growing band of dissenters, who was personally responsible for not only the economic downfall of Lehmann, but also in the possible financial problems at LGBoA. I thought that I was only making a comment on a moderating style that reeks of paranoia and dementia.
Must be the old saying, “There is a commie under every bed.” Problem is that some old farts are still looking under their beds for Reds.

Its no different than the Lionel Mystique, Lionel is best the rest is %^$# attitude. I like LGB, I wish I had more of it, but its simply been too expensive for me, so I buy Bachmann, HLW, etc.

I find that family post rather hypocritical given that anytime someone posted a “What the hell happened at LGB?” post elsewhere, the RBB flag wavers would decend on it and eventually get the post locked or even erased. I’ve seen alot of the discussion over the years and its not what Jerry says that it is, it usually goes like this,

Q: “I’m a newbie, whats the best trains to start with?”

A1: “Bachmann is good, just dont use the track”
A2: “Aristo has nice starter sets”

RBB: “LGB is THE best, dont bother with anything else”

Get the idea about where the trouble really comes from? I cant say how many times I’ve read something just like that over the years.

I’ve also been surprised by how invaraibly with LGBs limited US profile it sure seams to me like every “all LGB” layouts inevitably look alike, same engines, same stock, even same building built straight out of the box, thats not what I want. I think I’ve repainted or modified every LGB engine and car I own, and THROWN away the boxes, screw all that resale BS.

PS did anything ever come of the supposed LGBoA announcement that was supposed ly to be release “soon” …that was 2 weeks ago last I read.

Vic,

That’s why I mentioned the rewriting of history.

BTW the same old, same old on “all LGB” layouts, sheesh here I thought it was just my jaded eye, glad to hear that others get the same impression. It’s like that “How many LGB Moguls do you own?” question … just one; it is ass backwards and doesn’t have a tender.  I’m sure someone will tell me it’s a Lugom.

No there was no announcement, there is nothing to announce. At least not anything that would make LGBoA look better than they do right now … How good they look right now is a matter of perception and information that is available but not publishable.

HJ regarding the “how many moguls” quandry

I have exactly 1/2 moguls…namely the seperate drive brick they were selling a while ago, I could probably find enough parts to “build” my own mogul but I was thinking more along the lines of a 2-6-6 D&SP Mason Bogie but I just recently picked up a bunch of old Delton C16 body parts, in matching pairs no less…Now I’m seriously thinking of building a 2-6-0+0-6-2 Fairley!!!

Another forum site places much emphasis on just how many of a particular LGB item one is able to purchase. It seems a status symbol to accumulate the most of everything and gain bragging rights from doing so. One particular colonial is particularly prone to this malady. To top it off it is mandatory to tell the whole world of every LGB item that one purchases. Seems more like a LGB ‘show and tell’.

Tim, my first exposure to LGB at various homes was exactly that, a pecking order / elite club on who could buy/spend the most.

Not all LGB people are like that, but it’s still a popular pastime.

I did not get into the hobby until:

  1. more American prototypes were available.
  2. some consistent adherence to scale was evident
  3. more reasonable prices were found

I now no longer have any LGB. I have other products that are better for my tastes and budget.

Regards, Greg

Out of a LOT of ex-LGB locos I have one on-shed.
One.

BTW, he didn’t come by “McMoron” for no reason.

Blinders.
Factory equipped.
He doesn’t need to ask or learn, he gets everything he needs spoon-fed to him on the Feud.

Yes, you have to watch out for those Welsh wizards. They might turn you into a newt.

No, I mean a Fairlie!, like this one, an export to Mexico.

Heres a US version

That must have driven the fireman nutz, trying to keep the two boilers balanced. Or did they even try? Where did they keep the coal?

You guys are pullin’ my leg, aren’t you?

Steve do a Google search of “double fairlie” they were mostly british, engineer on one side, fireman on the other, who stoked a double firebox that straddled between them. Here a good diagram of how they worked:

Dave,

That old saw of “A picture is worth a thousand words” sure holds true when I look at the pictures from Marty’s. Put’s a whole new perspective on things!

Well, wha’d’ya know? Whoduh thunk it? I guess they are tank engines and burn oil? It is no wonder that diesels became popular… Thanks for the info, Vic.
