Wiring track for 'power blocks'?

How could I wire my mainline to pause one locomotive inside a mountain and restart a second locomotive repeating the process.

I would also like to have the option of switching this feature off for continuous running. I have an indoor layout, so exposure to weather is obviously not an issue.

Do you want this to be an automatic thing? I’ve seen it done, but with jerky starts and stops.

There is a guy that makes controlls that will do this. Can’t think of his name or site right now but it will come to me and I will post it. I know he has a ton of vedio on You Tube with yards and loops and a number of trains running on one track. His system has slow starts and stops so its not jerky.

The blocks would both be concealed inside mountains to give the illusion the train is running off into the distance before returning. Sudden stops and starts will not matter much, but a soft start would be keen.

Ok found it.

website is www.autocontrols.org and the youtube video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9d39xXulfo

hope this helps.

Thanks Geoff!!! That was a big help. Even the schematics to build the automatic system were available.
