Wiring an Accucraft C-19

I’m having some trouble wiring an Accucraft C-19 and I need some help.

I gutted the tender boards and replaced with an Airwire G2 and Phoenix PB9 sound card.

My problem is the wiring from the locomotive to the tender. I’m trying to wire the thing up without having to tear into the loco part. From the supplied diagram I have wired the motor leads to the G2, but I’m getting no movement. I know the motor works because I had it running on rollers and worked out any kinks before I started with the switchover.

Anyone have any advice?

You need to get into the engine and disconnect all pick-up feeds.
You might be able to do this from the bottom side, but I don’t know having
not done a C-19.

Bench test the AW with an extra motor if you have one laying around.

You have programmed the loco into the throttle, I assume. And heard all the correct “beeps”.

yep got all the right beeps. And it controls the sound card right.

I was afraid you were going to say I need to get in the engine. :frowning:

Not that I cant do it, but I was hoping for a simple install.

Accucraft locos will not run without the tender attached . This tells you that all track pickups are bought back to the tender for distribution from that point. You did not need to remove the board from the tender, it was easier if you left it in. no harm done however. By removing the tender circuit, you have disconnected the track pickups, make certain you tie off and insulate those wires. If you have a later production loco, then you have LED lighting and the resistors are already in the lines to the lights. The motor wires are larger -thicker- than the other wires, make certain you have them on alternate connections on the Airwire decoder. 2 and 4, or 3 and 5 terminals. Confirm you have lighting control, if so, then the decoder is working fine, and you need to look further.

Thanks Jonathan,

I have a newer production model. I did insulate the track pickups. If what you say is true then the wiring diagram is wrong that came with the loco. I suspected the heavier wires would be the motor pickup but the wiring diagram did not indicate that. I’m gonna need to find a correct wiring diagram I suspect.

Also, I have confirmed that my loco does have LED lighting.

The wiring schematics never agree. Finding an accurate one will be impossible unless you make it your self. Can you turn on the headlight with the Airwire system? Control of sound does not mean much since the DCC aux outputs are separate from the rest of the decoder programming. If you have light control, then the decoder is working. Accuraft uses a common power lead and independant returns for the headlight, and markers. This means ther are not full pairs of wires for each function. There are also 4 unconnected wires, 2 for possible smoke and 2 for chuff trigger, all already connected and going through the 12 pin connector. So, you will find thin blue, gray black and brown. These are all secondary circuits. You should also have had two pairs of black and gray, which were connected together and are the track pickups. Keep these separated from the other stuff and concentrate on the lighting. Disregard the smoke and trigger. This will eliminate most of the wires and make it easier to finish up.

Update, after Jonathan turned the light on in my head. I have motor control, like he said it was the heavy duty wires.

However, now I’m going to have to figure out the other stuff on my own. Once I get it figured i will post the accurate wiring diagram for the connection between the loco and the tender.

Here is another update. I final broke down and opened up my C-19 and traced all the wires. Here is what I have. Hopefully it will help. I supposedly had a newer version of the C-19. i had a 12 pin plug between the tender and the loco. But I only had one board in the tender. I thought all the newer versions had two boards, and even the wiring diagram that came with the loco showed two boards. Also, the wiring diagram showed alot of extras that were not on my locomotive, such as: smoke generator and speed sensor. Also the wiring diagram showed the marker and headlight hooked up together and the cab light alone on its own circuit. Mine had the cab and marker light together and the front headlight by itself. I made the diagram with the color of the wire and the purpose. I also labeled it with the fireman side so you know which side of the plug I’m talking about and the top and bottom rows on the plug. Any questions I believe I can help since I now know the inside of the loco.
