Wire Connections for LGB Mogul Pulse Generator

I’m installing a Massoth XLS DCC Sound Decoder into an LGB 26194 Mogul Locomotive…replacing the defective MTS/Sound board. I’m going to connect the LGB factory-installed pulsed generator already in the loco’s motor block but I’m not sure of the connections to the XLS pulsed generator’s socket. Below is the pin arrangement for the XLS decoder. Does anyone know which of the LGB three-pin wire corresponds to the Massoth decoder’s requirements. I’m going to splice in a Massoth three-pin connector to fit into the decoder’s socket.

The wire arrangement on the three-wire connector for the XLS decoder: Left pin = (Dec -) Ground; Center pin = Clock Out; Right pin = 6.5 volts

The 26194 mogul did not have a MTS sound board. The sound board was a SUSI bus board and cabled to a MTS on board decoder, 2 separate boards.

Did you remove both boards?

Hi Dan - The loco’s main circuit board has the pulse/chuff generator connector. Yes, I’ll be removing the sound board in the tender that’s no longer needed.

I’m pretty sure the center wire of the three wire cable is the Clock; I’ll just have to do a trial & error connection of the two outer wires to see what works for the Ground and the 6.5 volts. LGB uses three black wires on the cable so it’s difficult to determine which outer wire is the Ground v. volts.

Hi Dan - Here’s a photo of the loco’s circuit board that the pulse/chuff generator connected into…that connector shown on the board. Yes, I’ll be removing the sound board in the tender that’s no longer needed.

Perhaps, measure the voltages first before removing the boards? You should be able to tell them with a voltmeter, and the motor slowly turning on rollers.
