Winter Wonderland

December 8 - 6:00 p.m. and it started to snow. The first snow of the season. I sat by the window watching the soft flakes drift down over the layout. It was BEAUTIFUL! I decided to run my K-27 with the big snow plow around the outer loop. Too dark to take any photos. Maybe tomorrow morning.

December 9 - Woke up to a big beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering the layout. What a fantastic sight! Every tree and shrub covered by a beautiful mantle; couldn’t find the K-27 anywhere … I know it’s under one of those lumps. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and loved it. I did both the driveway and sidewalks. Later a snow plow came through and covered the sidewalk with compacted snow from the street so I shoveled it again.

December 12 - The sun has melted all the lovely snow. Found the K-27, but now there is no snow for the photos. Oh well, I’m sure we will get some more before the lovely winter is over.

December 14 - It snowed 8 inches last night and the temperature dropped to 20 below zero. Shoveled the driveway and sidewalks again and then the snow plow came by and did its trick again. Remembered where I parked the K-27 but now it is frozen to the rails. No photos today.

December 15 - Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer so I can drive in the snow. Still can’t get the K-27 to move.

December 16- Fell on my butt on the ice trying to pry the K-27 from the rails. All that was hurt my feelings.

December 17 - Still cold (below zero in the a.m.) and icy roads make for very tough driving. Tried to thaw the K-27 from the rails with a blowtorch but only succeeded in melting a few ties.

December 20 - Had another 14 inches of the white stuff last night. More shoveling in store for me today. The darn snow plow came by twice.

December 22 - We are assured of a White Christmas because 13 more inches of that stuff fell today and with this freezing weather, it won’t melt till August. Got all dressed up to go out and shovel the snow (boots, jumpsuit, heavy jacket, scarf, earmuffs, gloves, etc). and then had to go to the bathroom.

December 23 – Decided to give up on trying to get the K-27 unstuck until spring. I can’t even get to it due to the drifts.

December 24 - If I ever catch the guy that drives that snow plow, I’ll drag him through the snow by his ear! I think he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then comes down the street at 100 miles an hour throwing that white stuff all over what used to be my lawn.

December 25 - MERRY CHRISTMAS! They predict 20 more inches of this white stuff, wonder if they know just how many shovels full of snow 20 inches is? At least Santa doesn’t have to shovel that stuff. The snow plow driver came by and asked for a donation. I rapped him upside his head with the snow shovel.

December 26 - Guess who got 28+ more inches last night? I must be going snow blind or getting cabin fever because an indoor On30 layout is starting to seem real good to me!

December 27 - Toilet froze. If you go outside, don’t eat the brown snow!

December 29 - 10 more inches. They say I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That’s the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb do they think I am?

December 30 - Roof caved in. I beat up the snow plow driver; he is now suing me for a million dollars, not only for the beating I gave him, but also for trying to skewer him with the broken snow shovel. The wife went home to her mother. 9 more inches predicted.

December 31 - I set fire to what’s left of the house. No more shoveling.

January 26 – I feel so good now. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?

take any pitchers…

One reason why I do not live in the North. Later RJD

Thank you ever so much

I really needed a good laugh

Boy, I remember winters when I felt that way :frowning:
So far this year, youse Yanks is hogging all the snow. Thank you, from the depths of my two-sizes-too-small heart

Now that is a true R.R. train guy. Don’t put up with crap when something needs a fix. Sorry Joe Z. I had to use your little buddy… laf… and still laf.

Sunshine and 45°F, here in beautiful Deer Park, near the sign that says “Edge of the World-2 Miles.”

62ºF here in Saint Johns Florida. I just came in from running my railroad.

BTW, NO SNOW!!!

Actually, it’s 71 here in Choctaw today. Only an inch or so of snow so far this winter. Weather forecast is for 75 tomorrow. I just posted the tale to brighten the spirits of the poor folks in the northeast who are really getting the white stuff today.

25 here in the Burgh. I have succeeded in shoveling most of the driveway after work. I still have to shovel off the parking pad before my mom gets home. Its still snowing a bit, so I will have to clean off what I just shoveled when go back outside. My dog won’t even go outside, and the only evidence of a railroad in my back yard is the snow covered truss bridge over the sheet of ice that covers my pond. Soon, I will have a cold one, and then try and figure out the next part of the build challenge. Or maybe just have a cold one.

We’re expecting a light dampening tonight, you’d think a ruddy hurricane was coming ashore by all the “stormwatch” reports on the local news LOL

No snow expected here in Ottawa…Forecasting a sunny day, but a bit chilly…

It must be toooo cold to snow in Ottawa.

Massachusetts is presently shut down, no school, no flights, just lots of beautiful deep snow.

Beautiful white snow it ain’t! LAO

A good solid two feet of snow here, with 4-5 foot drifts against the house. Still coming down like hell. Just came in from doing battle in the driveway…

Solid 36" here.

Oh wait…that’s in 1:20 scale! Naturally, schools are closed today in Jackson. Not so naturally, they’re also closed in Fairfax County, where the snow ends up about 1.8".

Up here, that wouldn’t deter a chipmunk, but then we have plows, salt trucks, and winter tires (well, us hoomins do; the chipmunks will just have to look after themselves).

Saw a whomping big raccoon foraging down the street the other morning, in broad daylight. Lock up the garbage cans.

Last week I swear I had an outdoor layout and was running trains. Must be old age because when I look outside today, there is no trace that a railroad ever existed out there.
