I had my first run with my Shay after altering the exhaust some to exit into the smokebox, per the article by Larry Bangham in the latest Steam in the Garden magazine. It gave a little better sound, it had went up the stack to exhaust. You don’t get a lot of sound with an oscillator motor, I don’t think. Video: http://youtu.be/MiDuJKDoo8I

I made the Shay about 16 years ago. Some pix on my website, scroll down to the ‘projects’ button. I made all the cars also.

Thats a great looking shay Jerry. The cars look great with it. What happened to all that snow you had?

The Accu Shay is on my list to get but everytime I try to save money something happens like new brakes on car, new water softner ect… Grrrrr

Right now, me and ig are actually running THREE Shays as I come in from the 28F to get a to-up of the black stuff.

Well, two are sparkies, but ONE is a steamer and not a happy bear in the coldish weather.

Stiil, it’s a Shay and it’s making steam on Noo Year’s Day - it can’t get much better than that, eh?

I’m jealous. A bit warmer here at 42F. Butane still is not happy at that temp, but if I warm her up inside before firing she stays warm even in the snow. I might just fire mine up today - but first is a trial run of some RS-3 Diesels with a new battery pack.
