Large Scale Central

Winter Projects

Winter is getting closer and its time to start making that list of winter projects I need to do. I dont need a lot of stuff for the RR this time around but there are few things I need to do.

  • Build a covered bridge for the Cumberland Gorge. #1 on the list.
  • Start building that Oregon Pony.
  • John gave me a Kalamazoo 4-4-0 I want to redo and make into a battery powered train. So far I have it all painted and most of it together. The next step is to add a critter control to the tender with a battery pack and then finish with details to give it a backwoods look.
  • Build three more log cars
  • Work on my modular for our club layout.
  • Build a small portable live steam track. Something i can set up in garage to run on.

Honey do list Ugh (non train)

  • redo my spare bedroom that was damaged from the hurrican.
  • New floor in hallway.
  • sand and stain steps to upperstairs and put a new rail going up.

Non honey do

  • Put new work bench and shelving in garage
  • Finish up my Adirondack style shelter in woods.
  • rebuild brideg across creek that was destroyed by hurrican.

Well, I already started mine…

New depot for Mancos…on the bench.

Put the strap bands around the other water tank in Hesperus.

And build a new switch or 2 for the track work re-do in Mancos…
and whatever else pops into my mind over the winter.

Honey-do’s…to numerous to mention and forever being added too…(from a woman with too much free time on her hands…

Train related…
Build 2 1:20.3 outside braced box cars.
Build custom loads for 2 flat cars to re-create the HO set I had as a kid in “G”.

Non train related…
Finish my giant scale Stinson Reliant.
Finish my 1:350 Enterprise NCC-1701A

I could possibly have a few more covered hoppers to paint and decal…

I have enough projects planned to last the rest of my life…and then some
I’ve not yet decided what I’ll work on this Winter. But I do need to RC/battery some more of the motive power.

Mine:

All 1/29 scale…

Build an 86’ Pullman Standard Hycube 4 door boxcar.

Shorten an L.G.B. centerflow hopper to a 2 bay car.

Modify and paint many cars…50’ USA boxcars, 60’ USA boxcars, LGB centerflow hopper cars.

Try correcting an AML PS2CD hopper car.

And other things I haven’t focused on yet.

Rooster’s don’t know how to make plans…:frowning:
We just decide one day that’s what were gonna make and attempt it?

Ron, We don't have a Dec meet: just a party. I'll show it later on in the spring. (If I get it done. :) ) You can look at it from 20' away! :) :)

Currently in the workshop:
fixing the headlight of an LGB steam engine from Ralph’s estate to sell on E-bay
returning an LGB diesel from Ralph’s estate to track power to sell on E-Bay
helping Moe and Dave convert their GP-9s to battery power and radio control
converting Bud’s NW-2 to battery power and radio control and posting an article about it on the club web site

On the waiting list:
Converting Doug’s LGB Unitah with sound to battery power and radio control
Converting Doug’s USAT GP38-2 battery power and radio control

Then I may get to my own projects:
building a small time saver layout on a shelf
adding Phoenix Sound to my USAT S-4 switcher and posting an article about it on the club web site
adding battery power and radio control to my AC E-8 and posting an article about it on the club web site
adding battery power, radio control, and Phoenix Sound to my USAT SD-70 and posting an article about it on the club web site

Whew! I get tired just thinking about it.
