Winter project

Haven’t you Yanks heard of Pick-up trucks?
It’s the family car out west here.

Too funny John!!! Every family in the west owns at least 1 pick-up truck.
I haven’t owned a car since 1976. Could not live without my truck.

I forgot to mention thanks to Dean Whipple for supplying the info and drawings for my winter build.

Sorry about the link, but could not get it to open directly.

Poor Jon, one brain fart and a life of regret. It sounds like it was more then one piece of material.

todays new sport… ““Dumpster diving”” Don’t look now, Ethel… All ya see is roosters tail feathers…

I had a similar experience. My dad tore out his old Redwood deck to put in a new one. The was definately some rotting wood, but a lot of it was still good. He was going to throw it out, had it all loaded up in a trailer to go to the dump. I just happen to stop by to see how the deck was going, when I saw all that beautiful wood about to be thrown out.

Well I spent the rest of the afternoon going through all of it to get all the good pieces out. Thats the wood I’m gonna use to build my trestle this winter.

Amen brother, Amen.

Today I got the template built for the eight 47’ high bents. I attached the paper plan to a piece of particle board and sprayed it with laquer so the wood glue used for the bents won’t stick to the template.

I then got all the required pieces cut for these 8 bents.

The longer pieces in the back are for the girts and guard timbers and are not cut to length yet because this will be a curved trestle and these will be cross-cut to the required lengths as I build

…much too neat and organized…I’m ashamed of you, laddy…dirty up that workbench and be a man…!!!

Padre,

You start to sound like some of my German friends, they never could stand the sight of a well organized workbench. It would deprive them of looking for all the stuff they had in duplicate, but could still not find. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Friar…I did not show a shot of the floor or the rest of the shop…

… Yeah Randy, a clean bench is the sign of a sick mind…

Tongue in cheek…

Bob C.

Made some progress today. Got the eight 47’ bents put together. They are now ready to get set up on the curve template.

And in the jig ready to start adding stringers, girts, bracing, etc.

Randy, those look great…

Real nice. Looks like youre doing lap joints for the cross-beams?

Bob you mean the sills? No, butt joints as per the prototype. I was a little worried about using butt joints, but once they are together and braced seems real sturdy.

One more last up-date, then that will be it for awhile, something named work will get in the way. Got all of the girts in place. The scabby bracing you see near the top is just there to hold all of the bents plumb 'til the girts and additional bracing gets installed.
