Winter Project: Cheap dollhouse kit to LS house

My winter project: I found this inexpensive dollhouse kit on Ebay and took a chance.

Once assembled, its certainly big enough for LS but its really toy level detail and will require alot of additional work to make it presentable. So thats what I get to do this winter, to turn the sows ear into a silk purse.

The detail pics show what I’m talking about for toy level of detail, this will be in the back of my indoor layout against the backdrop wall so it doesnt have to be perfect, just presentable. I’ll be using various card stock materials and balsa wood detailing. Pics as it progresses.

Start by tossing the oversized gingerbread and cutting away the assembly tabs. Then use 2mm square to make new window muntins and you should be 2/3 of the way there…

That should make for a nice conversion. As a realtor would say…“She’s got ‘good bones’”.

"She's got 'good bones'".
:) The boss at my Property Management job said that about a 100 year old building he bought. By the time he was finished with the remodel he had either replaced or supplemented most of the bones to keep the roof from collapsing :)

Vic - With you talent this should be amazing when finished!

I got into project mode last night and added a bunch of balsa strips and some trim pieces. Looks alot better now.

I thought about these too, but they seem really BIG!

Rich the dimensions are printed on the first picture. Its right in the LS ballpark, its ok as is if its in the the background behind other things. If it more visible it will need more detailing. B

Actually I don’t think the gingerbread is that oversized…put scale roofing on it and it might not look so oversized

Rooster’s right. It would look pretty decent if you fix the roof.
But I’m more interested in the dark Spy
