Does this mean that Matthew was responsible for that big ice storm???

David,You said - āNow go buy the kid a mig welder and have him make some bridges for yaā as well!ā
Mattās Christmas present should have been a no brainer. Next year heās off to college and Jon will still be talking about building bridges, but now Matt will be gone. Matt could have paid for his own college with his welding art work for large scale trains. And if it failed, Jon would have had a tax write off for a failed business, but heād still have a mig welder.
Ric,
I didnāt understand all the details from Jons posts in the past but I figured it was something as such. That kinda chat catches my ear because I totally relate with Matt in a sense. I didnāt go to college and Matt seems to sorta sound like me 20yrs ago. I used the skill I was gifted with to make a career, home, family ā¦Jons boy sounds very talented, brilliant and with a college education on top of that he could be lethal !!!
Being gifted with your hands in our great country,I feel is gonna make a huge turn around in our society real soon! The boy will be so educated he can go in any direction he wishesā¦Hopefully he isnāt going on a football scholarship and mastering in communications.
Dave
Dave, I got to know Matt, while he ran an r/c car in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in York, PA., when he was a little guy. Since then he has grown from that little guy to a very talented and exceptional young man. (Jon, do not let him read this) He is very comfortable with people old enough to be his parents and tolerates our crazy hobby that we obsess over. He can tune the sound on a Phoenix system to the beats of a piston or spend the day making a sculpty figure sitting at a train show. He tolerates us.

Thatās him taking āFather Fredā for a spin at Rod Johnstonās. Thatās a whole story in itself.
Gee, maybe we need a Remember When thread to bring all our new friends up to speed with the last years. Itās been about 6 or 7 in my case, but Ric and some of these guys probably have 15-20 years or more of history as a group of friends. I have a few favorite pictures from that trip: Ric pushing Rumskis at Fredās (Invasion 2006)ā¦

The best one of Ken is on the next lap, but he paid me to destroy the negative Iāve got hundreds more, but these few were already on-line. So how did we derail this Winter Photography thread into pictures of Canadian Summers ???

Well, we did have a bit of inclement weather on that trip. On the way to Rodās in North Bay we got hit with a tornado and ended up spending the night in our motel with no electricity and munching on all of Jonās snacks for dinner.
Actually they were Ricās snacks. Heās a much better boy scout than me. It was my room though. OKā¦ an attempt to re-rail this thread. Itās a prototype photo, but kind of neatā¦
Hijacking threads is required on this forum. I enjoyed the detour.
Great picture, Jon. Either that was with a telephoto lens or this was going to start hurting pretty quickly after the shutter closed.
Thanks guys for sharing your stories! That is one thing I really enjoy about this groupā¦Jon Iām sure your son will continue to make you very proud in years too come. My son and the only child we were blessed with is 8 and he made me very proud recently with his manners in public when mom and dad were not around. We were told about it by another person. Jon ā¦and guysā¦those pictures of Matt and the crew will be cherished! Ric, ā¦You said York PAā¦and RC cars so Iām guessing you have heard of Kranzels RC and Hobbies. I was 14 when I got my first Tamiya Hornet and some local guys/ kids(me ā¦pissing off the old man) made tracks in their backyards. Dave kranzel got his start in my backyard. We used to race in the parking lot in Hanover for Allied Hobbies. Ok back on trackā¦Hey Bart we got more snow today did you? Just took this tonight when I got homeā¦however canāt do nothing with it as there is ice mixed inā¦blaaaahh! The wife put the lights on the Dwarf conifers and stuff.

Dave,
Iām sorry, I donāt know much about r/c cars. And most of what I know, I learned from Matt and Jon, that one day in a Holiday Inn parking lot while at the ECLSTS.

Donāt be sorry ā¦if you want to be sorry about anything be sorry that Bart has no SNOW!!!
1-3 inches forecast for tonite. Will probably be mush by the time I get home from work tomorrow. Nozzles for snow machine are on back-order. Bummer.
We had some snow and a traffic storm yesterday. Traffic was far worse than the weather.
My son and I used to race 1/8 scale gas R/C cars on mall parking lots, it was a blast of a hobby. Cars got too complicated/expensive so dropped out. Not sure if the hobby is still going or not.
