Large Scale Central

Winter Operations on the W&Q

first run of the new year for me. we had a little snow just after Christmas and it has been sticking around. I swept the track clear the day after, but it was too cold and the rails were icy so I didnt get a good run. yesterday was a bit warmer and after a little chipping of ice, i had a good run with a light snow fall.

WOW Eric, Your videos get better all the time. I think you should have your own TV show. Put the Brits(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif) to shame.

Some of those shots would have made a nice Christmas card…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Terrific as always! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Live steam in the snow!! That’s cool. Thanks for sharing.

Greqat videos Eric. You cant beat steaming in the snow. Im still waiting for snow here. We are way behind. How did you make out with the rain? Hope it didnt wash all the snow away.

How did you build that handcar? I love it.

Today I ran my old Frank S. He performed flawlessly even in near freezing temperatures. I bought this engine new back in the '90s from Train World as my second engine. It took me a while fiddling with the burner to get good performance but success was achieved. He does like the IsoButane mix better than pure butane especially in cooler temperatures. After My freind Jerry from Annapolis scored a new out of the box Frank S at the Cabin Fever show, I decided to take another look at mine. I got some properly German rolling stock for it and I think it makes a nice looking train!

Great video Eric. I like the last car best. Most of my live steamers are Regner,s easy line from Germany. The more you run them the better they run. I can get 45 min. run time out of some. Great video thanks for sharing.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looks good Eric, glad you got Frank S out of retirement! I hope to run my Frank S this weekend when the weather is alleged to hit high 50’s!

Jerry

The last car is a German post car… Mail car. Very nice and they seem to be available on flea Bay.

That looked terrific Eric!

Nice

Well Jerry also got an Aster Climax recently…he has inspired me to run everything…so here is the second installment

I purchased this as a kit back around 1990 from Southern Steam…I think. It took me a week or so of evenings to assemble it. it was all screw driver work. the mechanism was already assembled…I wished I had done that too, there were some things that were not quite right.

It did run and pretty well too. I installed an FM radio control…Didnt work great due to glitching. I modified a few things to suit my sensibilities. I added KayDee couplers, they just fit in the link and pin slots. I replaced the cow catcher with proper foot boards, I hinged the smokebox door, Made a tool box on the rear of the tender to hold the pump handle. more recently, I replaaced the cab with a 1:20 scale cab. I guess the old one was 1:24 or maybe 1:22…any how it always bothered me.

Thanks for the video Eric, But where is all the snow? I think I have more here in CT.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Eric,

Superb! Your RR looks very realistic. I like it a lot. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

My series of steam runs of my equipment continues…

I built this little logger as my first scratch built loco. it used to be a powerplant I had built for a little steamboat. Never really liked the steamboat so I ripped out the engine and boiler and made a simple loco out of it. The train consists of two of my earliest cars. I think the flat car came from a backwoods car shop kit…I have the plans around somewhere. I built three more cars to the plans…to have a reasonable train to pull with the climax. The box car is a kit from Ted Stinson (pull out plans in Garden railways) Northeast Narrow gauge. It is still lettered for the Flanders Bay and Schoodic Railroad, my first garden railway

Also note that the caboose in the Climax video started life as an LGB and is actually what got me into G-gauge in the first place…I needed a loco to pull it, thus the Climax…then I bought some track and built a covered bridge from scrap wood left over from a kayak project…and I was hooked!

Now thats a fun little engine.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Nice video. Love those little backwoods style engines. Doesn’t look like much snow up their. We have been lucky this year.

Eric

Nice addition to your winter video series. Poke deeper into that closet and see what else you come up with.

Regards

Jerry
