Winter journey on VIA Rail

Feb 19th meant getting up long before the crack of dawn, winter driving can be a bit tricky and it was "“very interesting” until I got into town. Anyway, I got to Kamloops in good time and to my surprise The Canadian was already at the platform — ahead of time!

Which didn’t mean the train would leave on time, CN Rail usually manages to delay “the passenger” for one reason or the other. First part is between Kamloops and Clearwater. More to follow.

Just watched it, H-J, and filed a comment. We love watching the sunrise over the mountains…and that sky…sooooooooooooooooooooooo clear!

Keep 'em coming.

Thanks tac.

Like many other things “I do it my way” .

Unlike some others I know I don’t obsess about viewer statistics either, matter of fact I was very surprised when I discovered that the Kamloops - Jasper chase has 8858 viewings.

Yes Sir, I’ll keep them coming.

Part 2 Clearwater to Moose Lake

Extremely annoying to put it mildly!!!

WTF is going on now!!?? GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Are there changes to embed VIMEO files? The usual stuff works for YouTube, but it doesn’t for VIMEO! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It worked on your 1st post.
Do anything different when you tried to embed part 2?
Ralph

The first post was a YouTube upload, the second try was on Vimeo. BUT I have a suspicion that Net Objects isn’t playing nice with Directx. That’s when the problem showed up first i.e. Google Earth wouldn’t load Directx while I was running NOF. I’ll find out after supper.

Duh…I wasn’t paying attention to details

Better?

No Jon, still no cigars.

Have to wait until the file finished loading to YT and then check for the last few restore points. Very annoying. GRRRRR

The embedded Vimeo is playing just fine in both your and Jon’s post.
Definitely a software issue on your end if you can’t see the video.
Ralph

Hmmmm, I’m getting ‘AAARGH!! Can’t be played with your current set-up’

Nice of them to tell me, eh?

tac, terbly dispointid

Well, still haven’t found the cause but, let’s try that with YT

tac,

that should work (I hope)

BTW that rapid-fire photographer was a young guy from Ireland, also on board was a Scot who lent his good camera to his son (in Vancouver) and was shooting with his smart phone.

The young guy offered to send him the whole set of what he was shooting on the train. Friendly bunch in that dome car; I was just handing out my The Old Railfan cards with both the VIMEO and YouTube addresses.

HJ - The best part about your videos are the scenery. I never have any problem taking over the TV to watch them in large format with surround sound. The wife doesn’t complain because she enjoys the view.

I was quite surprised how empty the dome was in part 1 - was it early AM?

Thank you Jon.

The schedule calls for 06:35 departure, I got to the station at about 05:50 and the train was already there (scheduled arrival 06:00). Hurray, that means we could be on time for the rest of the day. But we were thirteen minutes late leaving and sixteen minutes late arriving in Jasper. Pretty good going since there was a lot of westbound traffic between Kamloops and Redpass.

There were three or four people sleeping up in the dome when I got there; the coach seats would have been more comfortable.

Usually a ninety minute service stop, most times shorter on account of the delays - CN Rail is firmly convinced that freight is much more important than a few passengers.

no kidding.

So here’s Train #2 getting the routine before continuing to roll east, right on time. But that’s just a temporary condition most of the time.
