Wife's Train Painting

A little brag time.

My lovely wife Marilyn ( who graciously lets me “do” trains ) Has finally excepted my challenge to paint a “Train Picture”. In my collection of pics gathered over the years I found a 60’s shot of our local Farmington station, that I thought had some potential. I made a print for her to work from, and sent it to her iPad, which she uses a lot to paint from.

She started Friday Blocking in, and doing the background and underpainting on yesterday, and I stopped by her studio to look see. She had a couple of technical errors, which I helped her correct, and here is a iPhone snap of the Pic.

Thats not all of the canvas shown. and a crop in of the engine.

There is a lot of detail work to go, but it will get there

I’ll post more pics as she get along on it.

Yaknow I kinda like it like that, the red fields give a funky Modernist vibe.

She dun good!..

Where do we sign up for our copies?

Im with you Vic. It had a neat look to it. Nice work.

Dave

You really need to encourage your wife to paint and sell these.

I would like one. These look like they will be very nice.

The small commission you would make could really add to the train fund.

Tom

If it turns out to be good enough, (one never knows ahead of time) I do plan to make Giclee prints of it.

The original goal was for a Juried Art Show entry, for local artists. Our local (Farmington) museum has a permanent display of early history, including the oil & gas boom and the D&RGW pipe trains that played a part in it. ultimately we would put it on loan to the museum.

A friend Larry Brewer is also building a scale model of the Farmington Depot ( model is based on before the explosion that distorted it ) for the museum also.

Lots of work ahead.

Nice work Marilyn. Dave’s got competition!

A couple of updates to the painting. Life this week has got in the way of major paint time. But she got more done.

The Delivery Van.

And she is struggling on the end of the gon on the detail, I’ll get her a better pic to work from.

She plans to spend more time this week on it, as there is only 12 days left till submit deadline, and its Oil on canvas so it has to dry a bit too.

Very, very nice composition on the water tower canvas, Dave… Be neat to see it done…

She has very nice style… Very nice…

Very Nice!!!

Up date on the painting; She has until the 7th to get it turned in.

Color is off from the mix of lighting, and I didn’t run them thru Photoshop.

This is my lovely wife Marilyn at the studio today.

The central part of the painting.

And some engine detail. D&RGW 482

More work to do on the detail stuff, and a couple of minor corrections. She’ll make it.

She dun good!!!..

I love it;)

Dave,

You are truly blessed. You have a spouse who shares in both of your passions - art and trains (not sure which order). I am jealous  .

Oh, and her art work is really good as well. If the price is right I just might have to adorn a wall with one.

Wow that is turning out awesome.

man that is a great job, please tell her she is FANTASTIC!

She really captures the scene well.
