Why we won't be

From the latest winter storm alert for this weekend: A winter storm is currently brewing over Texas with the potential to bring significant snow to most of southern Ontario.

Darn Texans, they should keep their storms to themselves.
12 to 20 inches forecast on top of the foot we’ve just had. Snow piles in our front yard are up to six foot already in places. Not sure where we’re going to put any more.
Somehow, I don’t think we’ll be trenching out turf any time soon :stuck_out_tongue:

Chris we’ve been fortunate (?) enought thaeach of these storms has also broguht warm weather ahead of it and melted most of the snow off before depositing a fresh layer. Last Saturday night when I got home I got the snowblower outand in spots I had over a foot of fresh snow. Come monday we had almost 60 degrees F out and it was almost all gone. Tuesday came in the the ice storm and then we melted most of that off yesterday. As i type the enxt storm is here. Literally at 1pm I walked to the bathroom and there was no snow outside and on the way back to my cubicle I couldn’t see the hills in the distance. 5 minutes! It’s gonna be a rough weekend again.

Chas

We usually blame winter weather on you Canuks

Yes, I know :) I've had people from south of the border seriously ask me why we kept sending "Alberta clippers" and suchlike south. Ah, we're such a sharing people ;) I can remember U.S. TV weather maps that simply showed a grey nothingness above the northern states. They seem to have become a little more realistic lately.

Anyway, round one of the latest incursion from the south has begun. Round two, tomorrow, is supposed to be the doozie.
Wot the 'eck, March is a winter month hereabouts; forget equinoxes and “daylight time”. April is not infrequently wintry, too. Just the way it is.

and here i am in central new york, ripping up the temp track and laying out the new main line, installed a 9’ long bridge, placed my grain elevator, all was going smooth till 4 today, now the storm is here and i’m forced to work on that damn HO stuff

Mark, adjust the focus … you should be OK :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, we’re into round two.
Had a break this morning after round one. I was trundling around with me shovel when a neighbour I know only by sight came over with his big blower and asked if I would like some help. Took him about 20 minutes to blast the driveway clean; would’ve taken me a couple of hours. God bless helpful neighbours.
Tomorrow I get to do the whole exercise all over again, only with more snow than the first time

Track on my elevated oval is about 30 inches above ground at the far end; right now, it's about six inches above snow level, and the snow is gaining. "House" end, lower to the ground on a slope, has long since disappeared.

03/08/08 14:30 EST - New Fairfield, CT - On-and-off heavy rain here. All but the largest snow piles are gone, but we are worried about flooding. My basement usually takes on water when we get more than a few inches of rain in 3-4 hours. So far we are dry, but that may not last.

My father lives in Buffalo, NY, known erroneously as being the snow capital of NY State. The got 12" overnight and another 12 forecast for today. When I moved to CT in '82 we used to get regular Northeast winters. But the last 7-8 years, with a few exceptions, have been pretty mild. I don’t think it’s global warming, just the spread of hot air from NYC.

Stay warm. Spring will arrive eventually - At least by June

For all of those north of us, thinking Spring will never come. Today, 03/08/08 at 1430 the temp is 30 degrees in Carlyle. Certainly could be warmer, but the ice is gone and there are two Pelicans fishing on the lake. These birds are beginning to migrate and they know warmer weather is coming. We are just a stopping off place for many different types of birds moving north and south, but they sure tell us what’s in the future.

Yesirree! After posting this, I will head out into our garden. Beautiful bright sunshine, mid-80s, lovely cool sea breeze, and a bridge that needs finishing on the new spur.

I want you all to know I will be thinking of you.

Why is my nose growing?

Chris, I cannot complain about snowfall this season, I'm on the outskirts of Snowacuse (Syracuse), we typically get HAMMERED with large snowfalls in short periods of time. This year howver, it's either 20 miles north, 20 south or east/west of us.. NOTHING more than 8 inches from any one storm this year.. very WIERD!!!

I blame my sister in law from Cleveland…she came to visit this weekend and brought the white crap with her…

Snowing here. Not heavy.

Round two went through.
Tried to open the screen door at 8:30 this morning (yes, I remembered to set the clocks forward); it was jammed by a foot of snow. Fortunately I had a little shovel in the house; managed to get the door open enough that I could get an arm and the shovel out and around; cleared enough snow that I could open the door wide enough to squeeze out. (The last time this happened, many years ago, I threw younger daughter out the kitchen window to go around and clear the door.)
Suffice it to say that I quit shovelling shortly after 1 p.m.
Plenty more to do yet :(, but the back was issuing “stop now” signals.
