Who was talking chain binders

Awhile back the discussion of making chain binders came up. So here is what I came up with for a need for some for the MIK Challenge.

So looking for that vintage 1800’s feel here is the protoype I wanted.

Here is what I made.

I think it is ok. I used some 16 Gauge soft brass wire. I used it round for th handle and hammered it flat and fied it for the other parts. Some solder to hold some parts. the hooks are sewing pins. the pivot pins are also sewing pins also, bent over.

Boomer may have been talking about them for his Cable Reel on Flatcar build. Ozark makes some.

Nice work Devon, Did you have your 1:20 scale forge fired up for hamering the round flat? Great job using what you had! Ozarks looks like the more modern ratcheting version.

I fired up a two pound sledge hammer and just “tapped” it. While these are not works of art I am rather pleased with the result for an actual working chain binder. I hope to have pictures of it in action soon. I might someday try casting indiviual parts for some when I get into that. But for now these are ok.
