Does anyone know who makes this?
I won an auction on eBay a while ago and the two flat cars had this load on them.
It looks to be made of expanding foam.

Looks interesting, but have never seen it before. Will watch for it at York.
Nice detail there just add some paint and they will be very realistic.
There is a guy here that makes cool logs out of foam maybe they are examples of his early work?
Thanks for the replies. Here is one with some paint.
I thought the other one was a little dark so this used less paint on this one.

It all depends what trees you are chopping down. I liked the dark ones!
Someone did make foam logs commercially for a while, but I just cannot remember who it was. It could be them that you have.
I need to look at more trees.
Jim, just don’t start hugging them, ok?

I’ve been accused of many things, but never tree hugger! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
I don’t know who made those but they sure look great!
I’ve seen them at various garden RR functions here in Sacramento. One of our members has made some like those out of foam. They really look good. Jim, why don’t you attend one of SVGRS functions? We meet once a month somewhere in the Sacramento area.
Jim… I think those were made by Aristo Craft… I had some a few years ago… Painted them darker too…
Ray: Thank you!
Dick: I would like to attend one of SVGRS functions sometime.
Stan: Thanks, looks like they are out of production. I searched online and came up with nothing.
Jim… Yup… they went out when Aristo closed down.
It might be A60402 Wood Log Load for bulk flat car, but I got a picture of the car with the load.
Does this look like it? the picture with the end detail should cinch the decision.
Greg
Thanks Greg.
Now I know who made them.
I wonder if anyone would mind if I made a mold from them?
I seriously doubt it, Aristo is no longer, China has the molds and no one is making them… I think that would be a very low risk venture.
Nice looking, I had never seen them.
How the heck do you make a mold, latex?
Greg
These would be really neat to cast in polyurethane foam. I wonder if I can find a set at York to fool around with…
Bob, polyurethane foam would be the way to go. I made some out of Smooth Set Light, but it’s still to heavy for a car load. Static display would be fine.
Greg, you could make a mold with RTV silicone.
I made a mold of some “other” logs using Platinum Cure RTV silicone. It picks up all the fine detail of whatever you want to mold. It would be very expensive to make a two part mold of the Aristo car load. A blanket mold uses less material, but works good as long as the “blanket” is supported when casting. A blanket mold requires a thin coat of Platinum Cure RTV. Once the thin coat gels you add (mix) a Thixotropic additive (thickens the RTV) to the Platinum Cure RTV and with a stiff brush spread the mix onto the mold. The Thixotropic additive reduces the working time of the Platinum Cure RTV so you have to work fast. It will take several coats to make the blanket mold, but you will still use less material than a two part mold.
Using thick foam (3") cut out the shape of the mold and place the blanket mold in it for support.
