Wheeeeeeeee...!

The robins are back! The robins are back! Wheeeeeee…!!!

That means garden railroading season is just around the corner!!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa…!!!

I just looked out my kitchen window and the tree in my front yard was just full of robins.

You been hidin’ out in yer basement too much. They were here in Deer Park a week ago.

I’m setting up a jig to manufacture sub-roadbed using the ladder system. I’m gonna use redwood instead of Trex or other synthetic. I’ve seen the synthetic woods sag too much on tangents for my taste. I’ll post pics as soon as I have something worthwhile.

The dumb things were HERE all winter, and I’m STILL wondering how much time I’d get if I drove up to Punxy and strangled that lying groundhog, too

Dormirai con i pesci. That groundhog has amici.

Our Robins showed up while the ground was still covered with ice/snow. We provided birdseed. I think they are building a nest in our front bushes.

Steve,
So as not to highjack this thread, I posted a thread for you about ladder roadbed in the Track Forum [even though you didn’t request it].

JimC.

Jim, the robins I’ve seen don’t eat seeds. They are bug and worm eaters.

Yep, but the worms would have been a little too hard to dig through the ice.

We got the seed after the birds tried to eat some plastic red berries the wife had in a crock on the front porch. I guess they were desperate. Jim C.

C’mon guys, don’t bust my bubble too much. I really need this stuff to go away…:frowning: I need some hope that there really will be a spring…

Sorry, Warren. No sympathy here. We FINALLY melted off most of the 48"+ of snow we’ve gotten over the past 8 weeks, and Ma Nature is currently refilling the cup with another 6". I was this close to being able to run trains on the railroad! Have to settle for the club’s display at the train show this weekend–which will probably be poorly attended because of the flippin’ snow.

Later,

K

Kevin, I guess you are really having a bad case of cabin fever. Colorado really got hammered this winter…:frowning:

Warren,
The robins arrived at my snow covered place this week, took one look, and headed back south.

John, quit being a party pooper. I’m tired of this soggy winter…

Chin up (to keep your nose above the snowdrifts, if nothing else). Spring is guaranteed to arrive in the next six months or so. Just before fall.

Haven't seen any, yet.

BTW the previous owner of this house used to mark the arrival of the swallows on the garage wall. Spring arrives for me when we close the ski area and summer arrives when we start to row on the lake.

Which means we don’t like to “waterskii” and we don’t want to get “dumped” when the water is still too cold for comfort.

I can understand. Purple is not one of my favorite skin colors. :frowning:

Warren, This one is for you. JimC.

At risk of being lynched by a mob of snow-crazed railroaders, I shall report that I haven’t seen any robins here. Apparently they are rarer than snow in San Diego – I’ve actually seen snow here once, about 40 years ago. Never seen a robin here though.

BTW, today it was a pleasant 65 degrees or so, with sunny skies. We did have one full day of rain last week though. First time I’ve been kept from the layout by the weather so far this season.

But seriously, you folks in the snow and ice encrusted regions have my sympathy. A little snow once in a while is nice (and then only if you don’t have to go anywhere in it), but much more than that must be a real pain.

Got up to drain the sump, and there is 6 new inches of snow on the ground, and it is still coming down.

My lovely bride got nailed with the flu on Thursday evening. Bummer. We both started Tamiflu Friday morning. I avoided the worst of it. Hopefully, she will feel human again this morning. She is sleeping peacefully, now.

Steve, glad to hear that most of the snow passed north of here. I have only about an inch of stuff on the ground. Hopefully it will be gone by this afternoon.

We on the East Coast are getting dumped on as we speak…:frowning:
