Takes all kinds to make the world go round…
Asked the wife what she would do. answer… You would not even make it that far. D…E…A…D
Remember when you got your first LS locomotive, anticipation to see it go? maybe he/she had no where else to run it, and maybe he/she didn’t have to ask permission.
I personally don’t see a problem with it as long as a window was open and maybe an exhaust fan in place, you know the person was right on top of it the whole time JMHO nick jr

The bigger issue Nick is newspaper under the track. It would not take much for that paper to catch. Don’t forget the bottom of the smoke box is open. Its not so much the smell and the wife. I have had the entire front of my steamer on fire. If that were to happen that paper would light up.
I don’t think its that bad. At least paper is under there…
I run on my workbench all the time to test or run something. All kinds of flammables near I guess as I always have a rag underneath plus its a wood bench. We have even run alcohol indoors, Sabrina my friends wife gets mad as the house stinks and the alarm usually goes off. HAH
As to a smoke box fire unless you overfill and don’t bleed off the liquid I have not had any issues as far as a flame out the bottom. takes a lot of the gas valve to really get a flame shooting out.
Nick has plenty of steamers too, I’m sure he has run indoors too. He doesn’t have to ask permission either. He is a diesel guy too though its run on a Nitro motor.
oops had the wrong Nick lol… Either way still taking a chance in my book and not a chance worth taking. On a workbench its a little more controlled.
“but newspaper, wood floors and live steam??”
Reminds me of a scary incident many years ago when I lived in Taxachusetts. I had an O-scale layout in the basement, and in one corner was a tunnel made, English style, with chicken wire and papier-mâché (newspaper and paste.) The baseboard was homasote - also a paper derivative.
So one Friday there’s the remnants of a hurricane due to barrel through (Greta?) They sent the kids home from school and I also told my boss I would work from home. By mid afternoon it was blowing outside, but nothing special, so I was in the basement running trains. I got bored with the sparkies and got out my Mamod live steamer. It ran happily around the layout for a few minutes.
Then the power went out - guess a tree chopped the wires. There were no windows in that part of the basement so I had to scramble to figure out where the loco had gone. Guess where it came to a stop? Right in the center of the tunnel ! I had to stick my arm in and grab the hot loco to remove it in a hurry. I won’t do that again.
