What's going on?

I had to check again but it is January 7th in New England and I was outside in a sweatshirt today running trains. I don’t know whats’ going on but I like it. The rotary build got put on the back burner and instead I had the NW2 and the GP38 running freight around the RR. The new Bachmann Baldwin 2-6-6-2 also got a run in but it made me realise that I need to stretch out some of my tighter curves so I’m now on the hunt for a circle of euro 10’ diameter curves. Wow the price of track is up again.
Yep tody was a good day. Did anyone else get a chance to enjoy the unseasonable weather? Look out it will probably snow tomorrow.
Todd

Todd,
My brothers surfed Nauset all day!

Being a Rhaetian Railway junkie I check frequently what’s going over there. They are drowning in snow!

From East to West in the Swiss Alps they have unreal amounts of snow coming down and piling up. Several of the railway lines in the mountains had to be closed.

HJ,

They can have it…We set a record here today. 61 Degrees Yummie.

Nick

We hit a high of 56 yesterday. Some areas in NJ hit 70. This weather is amazing for Jan. My normal High temp for this time of year should be upper 20’s and snow. I cold front went through last night but its still going to be low 40’s for a high. Thats still not bad. I just hope when it does get cold my plants dont suffer.

I got ya beat - I was outside in a T Shirt running trains! OK, I’ll admit it was a long sleeve T, but the temp was nearly 60. One thing I did notice that with the low sun angle, being in the sun or the shade didn’t make much difference. Last year on this date we looked like this…

I’d rather be in the T-Shirt !

So guys where are all the pictures of the nice weather running? I braved the 17 degree windy weather with a video. I want to se some pictures  Besides Hollywood, Andy and Rooster cant read they need photos. I had to work yesterday so I did not get to run any trains.

Sorry. I thought of it. Ground was too muddy to kneel. That’s my excuse and I’m stickin’ to it.

YThe west is also havimg nice weather but it’s DRY! We have no rain or snow and none predicted. We are under Fire Watch today.

Hey you folks are just getting a taste of what we HAVE to put up with here almost year round, in the sunny and mild Socialist State of Kalifornistan.

We have Santa Ana winds coming in now from the desert. We live in the hills above the San Fernando Valley and our biggest fear now is that we will get the wildfires caused by the Santana’s. :frowning: About 45 degrees right now in Burbank, but the desert winds are starting to quickly raise the temps. We’re forecast for 80 today and 82 tomorrow.

It was very cold at this time in the UK last year. The northern parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland seem to have a mixture of very windy, wet and cold weather. Here in the more balmy South West, once the high winds and rain passed earlier in the week has given dry, sunny weather with temperatures in the 40F- 50F+ region.

I have run trains for an hour or so most days this week. I hope it continues; but I am not that sure it will.

A friend in the Milwaukee area tells me the salt piles on Jones Island have not diminished - well they have had some low temps there, down to around 20F, but, most unusually, no snow.

Not running, but doing trackwork, repair/rebuild after the Halloween storm. Have all the track at Majestic rebuilt, with the exception of some benchwork I need to make to extend the track under the colliery. All the track on the lower loop is connected, lined and leveled. Cut in the new turntable lead at Burke. Supposed to be mostly in the 40s all week, so I should get more done!

The first real chill we’ve had arrived after Christmas, -20C or so; it’s still a tad brass-monkey out there.

Went out to the back shed today to pick up some tools; the shackle on the “weather resistant” padlock wouldn’t open. 'sfunny, the only trouble I’ve had with padlocks has been with the weather-resistant kind; the old bog-standard, inexpensive variety have never fruzzen shut :stuck_out_tongue: There’s a lesson there somewhere.
The temp is supposed to creep just above freezing in a couple of days, so I’ll try again then; if that don’t work, then it’s the heat gun – but I have to be careful not to melt the plastic “weather seals” (ha!)

Hi Todd,
It’s Cape Cod and many a winter has gone by without SNOW and very cold temp’s. Don’t knock the weather just think how much money is being saved on your heating bill. Another thing to remember is that every day without SNOW and VERY COLD TEMP’S is one day closer to the WARMER day’s of SPRING and SUMMER.

45F today…50F tomorrow. In Minnesota…In January.

I knew I should have laid that track this fall!

No frozen locks here. We were down to 31 but at 5 a.m. it was already 43. Iknew it would stay warm if I bought firewood!

Its a nice sunny 54F in my area of the UK but still cool.

"Ernie, why do you have that banana in your ear?" "It's to keep the alligators away, Bert." "We don't have any alligators here, Ernie." "See, Bert. It works!"

(I got the lock open today; the mercury climbed just enough.)
