Been tring to add new topics tonight @ the other site (*LS). Each time hit submit and new post does not list in forum? Anyone else had this issue? Never seem to have issues @ LSC.
Todd, which browser/version are you using? MLS behaves differently on each browser I view it on. Haven’t a clue as to why. Firefox seems to be the most stable, but sometimes I have to use IE to do certain things. Safari and MLS don’t play well together, at least not on either of my two Macs.

Why do people complain on our great site about the other site being down or not working? I really get tired of hearing about it.
Chuck Inlow said:Yep. I fully agree. Who cares if they're up, down or for that matter sideways. As far as certain browsers being less than ideal with MLS, welllllll how about the MLS software being less then compliant with some common browser types? Would that be a possibility? :/

I for one have very little trouble on this site.
If you are having trouble, then please check your browsers.
Make sure they are up to date, and compliant.
I’m sure the problem is at your end.
I suppose the second question would be why does one of the plethora of moderators on that site come here to answer connectivity issue questions?
One of the many software screw ups is that if they lock a thread underneath you (without even telling you they did it or why), you may not know that until you back clear out of the thread. Seen it.
You still have a box to post in, you can still hit “submit”, but until you go to the main forum, at least on my browser, you don’t get the lock sign.
This place has one Great Pumpkin, so you don’t have to deal with any minions.
Great, ain’t it?
Chuck Inlow said:I suppose it's because if they complain over there, there's a chance they might get raked over the coals and told nobody is forcing them to participate in the forum.

As for Kevin, it’s in his nature to help. Kevin participates here on a regular basis. I, for one, am glad he does.

I have had Opera browser for a few years. Firefox was my default browser until it became troublesome a year ago due to Adobe flash add-ons. I deleted and re-installed but still had the same issue.
Consequently Opera, now up to version 11, has become my default browser. IE8 is also used but to e lesser degree. The other website mentioned, which I rarely view, does open with both Opera or IE8 but I did not wish to post there so I cannot comment on posting.

Stop and think about it, Ralph.
Why would someone worry about getting raked over coals?
Maybe they’re afraid someone who claims to be smarter than the whole world put together will come on the forum and tell them the site is SUPPOSED to work that way, and how dare they have the audacity to question the High and the Mighty.
But, they do allow some of their mods to travel to less heavenly places, and share the goodness of their forum and how to make it work.
“Ours is the one and only true way”, which is why you need to use specific software and the workarounds are only available to those who bend their knee and become Classy, and First.
Dave,
Somehow I have been under the impression for many years: as Administrator of either a website or a forum one fixes shortcomings that the users point out. Not only that, but in order to avoid all sorts of problems (in the first place) one tries the stuff with at least three or four of the popular browsers to make sure things work.
I have lost count of the times “that other forum” has been on the blink for a variety of different reasons. Naturally it was always the forces of nature, the green gremlins or any number of other influences. It is never, ever a lack of foresight, some testing prior to going on-line and subjecting users to crap - hey some of them even pay for the privilege to be guinea pigs
Makes me wonder how Bob manages to avoid these pitfalls? Perhaps he could sell the recipe, eh?
I know how I manage to keep things smooth.

???
woow, this looks just like an *LS thread.
just joking!!!
Welcome back Marty!
Soap Suds, Marty. Scrub-a-dub, keep it clean…
At least Bob keeps it working, as HJ pointed out.
If you’re the smartest man in the whole wide world, you find folks who can write new, never been tried before forum software…and then spend how many years figuring out work-arounds and upgrades?
Gee, you think he called Billy Gates to write it?

Hey Marty,
It could, but we “lack” the moderators, there never seem to be enough excuses in the house and we have enough other excitement in our lives. Oh, hold it … of course I’m just speaking for myself and as always this is strictly my opinion.
BTW I had a big grin on my face when I read the post - yeah I just had to look - with someone asking for his money back. I guess that can happen every 8 or 9 years that someone actually has the gall and states that publicly, instead of “being nice” and sending an email. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Welllll, come to think of it, what did I do with the $20 refund way back then in April 2002?
One of the main things Bob appreciates, is a bunch of people “Talking Trains”…so why in hell are we talking about that other place and it’s faults…
LETS SPEND OUR TIME MAKING USE OF THIS SPACE, TALKING ABOUT THE HOBBY WE ALL ENJOY....talk trains, PLEASE>
Ah, Ferd, this is so much FUN!
And you certainly can’t speak yer mind over “there”. You know that.
So, we end up with the odd thread about that place…and everybody vents (well, almost) and it’s back to business.
Me? I’m Brit Car-ed out…feet up…loading pot-shots…
Trains? Good idea lol
Now that the three weeks of the Tour de France has finished - the American Teams did well (an Australian riding for an American team winning the Yellow jersey and consequently the whole race and and a Briton, also riding for an American team winning the green jersey) - I will now have more time for railroading. Some folks will have seen pics of my grain elevator recently. The Office and walkway from it to the elevator are now complete. I still have to find something suitable (items on hand did not look right) as a delivery from the elevator to the railroad cars and I have to letter the side of the elevator showing ownership/location. Then all that will remain is for the dead annual flowers to be removed from the part of the garden which is to be the elevators home and the ground prepared.
I have one or two projects in mind and reading a post on this Forum today has reminded me that I need a crane for loading coal into the ten wheelers tenders. Providing the summery weather - pleasantly between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit - lasts I hope to get some of them completed.
I read recently that covered grain hoppers were not prolific much before the 1970’s, boxcars being the main cars used for grain shipment. This suits me fine as my modeling period is 1950/60 era and having five suitable boxcars - i.e. single door.
Tour de What???
When Lance was racing the Tour was all over the media here, even broadcasts of the stages on regular network TV, thats all done and over with now, have to find it on cable or web. Its amazing how US-o-centric the media here is, if there isnt an American in the top 10 they assume no one here cares, like Soccer, and they are probably correct. I consider myself very fortunate I can still see F1 over here.
Oh wait, were supposed to be talking trains here …sorry, been busy carving up a Marx gondola over a tender frame so I can have a scissor coupler on one end and a hook coupler on the other so can run everything together…Oh wait thats the wrong scale…sorry!
Actually I might have something to report shortly
