Whatever happened to LGB's other mine/ore cars

Back when LGB produced disconnect log cars they also had mine/ore car that was quite different from their tipple car. It was rectangular in shape, 2 axles, green, and had working side dump doors. I think it had link & pin couplers too.

I had a few and foolishly sold them off. Now I want them again. Does anyone remember these and have a part number & picture. I looked through the old LGB catalogs I have but couldn’t find anything. Couldn’t find the log cars either. Were these the Lehmann Toytrain line?

Thanks,

I remember those, they were nice. The turn up on Evilbay from time to time. I just picked up two sets of logging disconnects, loos, no box so no numbers. I don’t know the item numbers for the ore cars but I do know they were not part of the Toytrain line, good luck.

There a few sets for sale at the York show, last march…

The Bachmann ore car was rectangular, 2 axle, green and side dumped.
And red or black.

I think he’s talking about the LGB gable bottom cars, not the Bachmann ones. They were different. The gable bottom cars were great for 7/8ths, I had a dozen or more of them.

Its these ones, sorry, best pic i could find

Those are the ones Victor

Are you looking for a set? with the small diameter wheels if I am thinking of the right ones.

Hmmmm, maybe I'm thinking of the wrong ore cars, then.....

Yes. Check Victor's picture to be sure, those are the ones. RichK

I also would like to see these ore cars reissued. I only have two and would like to get another two. I have enough metal wheels to equip one new car, but would need to find wheels for the second car. From what I have seen on buntbahn.de Galerie, these cars were very popular in Europe, so there may be hope for a reissue.

Reissued cars would probably have a high price per car. I’d like to have about 12 cars.

Plan B: buy HLW 2 axle flat cars and build my own interpretation.

Plan C: be lazy;use the HLW 2 axle ore cars and take my glasses off.

“Reissued cars would probably have a high price per car.”

Rich;

I feel your pain. Presently I am selling gently used models that no longer fit in with my proposed system. I will most likely set aside some of the proceeds toward the two cars I want. (If I remember correctly, that is one box - as they came two cars per box.) In your case, six boxes is a lot stiffer. Perhaps you will have some good luck and be able to fulfill your needs over some time. Also, they sometimes show up in the Watts Train Shop online auctions.

If push comes to shove, I may try to scratch build something similar. The cars are pretty basic, so multiple parts could probably be knocked out pretty easily. I might be able to get away with mounting O gauge high rail wheels on new axles. Well, as they say, I’ll cross that bridge when I have to.

I had two sets of these, LGB 40190. Sold them off to a live steam guy in the UK. They are an O&K prototype if memory serves and are really nice cars with a bottom discharge.

Unfortunately, none of the “feldbahn” items excluding the passenger cars have been re-issued by Marklin. Watching what the tiny steam locos and cane cars are selling for, I am surprised that these have not…

…HOWEVER…

(Not to start a bunch of EPL/Marklin BS discussion)…while the feldbahn items were marked and sold as LGB, if it was like the Lehmann (Toy Train) line which was not LGB marked, then much of the tooling was reportedly not in possession of EPL, but was by contractors including in Korea, Czech Republic and Piko in Germany.

Hot dog, a part number. Thanks Garrett. I did a quick Google search and found a set that sold on Ebay in March. For those not familiar with this car you can search for 260756141381 on Ebay. Better hurry though, it will be deleted at the end of this month.

$62 for the pair

Rich, while I liked them, another good car is the Western Wheel Scraper cars mentioned above, sold by Bachmann. If you remove the gi-normus ugly Bachmann couplers and replace them with Ozark link and pins, they are really nice.

I got rid of those too, to another live-steamer (dad) operator…noticing a trend here…

Damn the width of oceans, I have a mate here in Australia who has about 12 or 13 pair of brand new ones he has been trying to sell for about $60AUS per pair, he may or may not be willing to drop the price but postage for that many to US will be high, perhaps they could be unpacked from the dreaded red boxes and repacked into another carton for postage.
I am off to Denver for a holiday on Sunday (woohoo, 3 more sleeps) but I haven’t got that much room in my case!!!.
