Large Scale Central

What the fresh hell did I just buy?

What have I gotten myself into.? I found this brass monstrosity on Ebay,. I was intrigued. It was advertised as “close to G scale” so I asked about the gauge and got 2-1/8" which I believe is old Standard Gauge. I was now very intrigued, also because the starting bid was only $25. In the end I was the only bidder. It’s a display model, no motor, but there’s a ton of space to swap a G motor block under it, I have an LGB 2-4-0 block I think will work nicely. If it works I’ll start a build log on the Modeling tab.

Is it actually brass? That’s kinda cool.

Vic;

Just beware of the side-to-side clearances. Learned the hard way trying to convert a Lionel 2-4-2 Torpedo to an S gauge 4-6-2. Length and height were OK, but the width caused it to hit everything next to the track.

Best, David Meashey

P.S. This is what the Torpedo locomotive looked like.

P.P.S. Also have that camelback’s kissing cousin.

I saw that as well on Ebay. I’m happy you got it. I look forward to see what you do with it.

Looks like it’s painted brass colored. Look at the few spots of missing paint and you’ll see grey/unpainted steel color.

It might be that, Its going to get painted anyways. It’s a chunky little monster that’s for certain.

Well Vic,
Don’t know about the model wheel sets (Marklin?) but it looks like a Reading A5a…Only reason I know that is they used to run on a branch line close to me that I have researched quite a bit in the past.

Edit: for Hollywood

What does the backside of the loco wheel flange say? ( ENGINE )

yes on engine but magnified pic says not a commercial piece. Home built

I’m curios about what Vic will do with it. He’ll for sure figure out something clever, and turn this mystery-fresh-hell-thing into something very cool.

Should have a “Vic Challenge” along those lines!

Yeah I figured homemade buy the look and not manufactured. I guess I should have been more specific when I referred to Marklin. I was thinking the wheel sets Captain Hollywood! I’ll edit it for you .
