What pre-built benchwork for my indoor do you recommend?

Hello:

I’m going to put this modest indoor layout in our guest bedroom.

I don’t have easy access to lumbar yards/power tools etc because of my mobility issues.

Over the last few months I’ve researched quite a few pre- built benchwork/mail order options and I’m wondering which companies you have used and recommend.

Thank you.

Brian, How extensive is the prebuilt bench work you ar looking for. Do you want scenery and all so you can just plug in and run? or are you looking for a sturdy surface to work from. Area you live in would help. The more you share the easier to help

if i look right, your plan indicates about four by eight foot.

why don’t you look at tables with foldable legs?
with two or three tables it should be done.
screw them together, close the gaps with duct tape.

and off you go!

and be welcome.

Not a bad idea! Thank you for the help.

How about a foldable ping pong table? You could probably pick one up used on the cheap.

Great thinking Korm and excellent suggestion as well Bob.

My indoor layout in the basement was about the size of yours.
I made the benchwork out of folding tables and then covered all of them with a patio rug,
laid the track and ran trains. There was room for 1500 series LGB Curves and switches. There was even room for a few Pola buildings.

Now if you are planning on ballast, scenery, etc, A ping pong table would work better, probably.

Brian, I am linking to your post on MLS which provides a bit more information on the direction you are headed.

not much actual thinking involved.
for the last ten years, i am planning for an old man’s layout, i am doubting if i should use folding tables, or mattress supports on iron angles below the planned foam.

the folding tables will be easier for my widow to guard out of the way, till my (now 3 months old) grandson is old enough, to destroy everything for good.

so when Brian mentioned mobility issues, it just sprung to mind.
