Would you hear around a diesel loco maintenance facility? Looking for sound cards.
You would probably hear a bunch of guys standing around and mumbling about how much more work there was with steam engines “back in the good old days”! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)
Gas engines, compressors, grinders, hammering, someone doping tools and someone else cussing up a storm.
Birds, wind through the trees (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Diesels idling and the air brakes bleeding off along with what everyone else said
“Cussing.” Good point!
Just some of the ITT modules.

What I did was went on-line and took various freeware sound bites and made a 5 minute loop using the Audacity software. Then I divided this up into ten 30 second segments that can be triggered at random to start the 5 minute loop at any point along the sound loop so that it is not repetitious each time it is triggered.
It’s in stereo and one channel’s speaker goes in the water tower and has machine shop sounds, as you suggest, but also things like water being added to steamers or diesel fuel added to diesels, brake squeal, etc. I can select from nine sets of 10 stereo “tracks” (on a custom made MP3 player by Dave Bodnar) to play at random and they are triggered by the arriving engine. I have sets of tracks for steam and diesel engines. I actually bought Dave’s prototype unit in the grey box shown in the article.

The other channel’s speaker is in the main station and plays station-type sounds such as people talking, children at play, a cart rolling with a bad wheel, birds, dogs barking, announcements, etc. There are triggers (reed switches) on the three lines at the station as well as in the service area and any or all can be selected to trigger the unit.
Thanks, Todd! You saved me hours listening to annoying racket to figure out which annoying racket best fits the situation. I think I’d go with http://ittproducts.com/media/hq618-2.mp3
But he doesn’t WANT to buy from ITT, he wants it from RAM…
Snoring, I am sure there is snoring
Devon, well, yea, but with all of the other noises, it would not be all that noticeable.

Perspective, depends on where in the shop your hearing it from. If your trying to sleep next him and he is keeping you awake it will be noticable(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
You are, or you’re, NOT your in the message above…just for your information…no offense meant
