Large Scale Central

what is going on?

everybody describing, what they do, makes me want to describe my progress as well.

(even if there is nearly none)

th excellent MOW crew of the Southern & Gulf RR (remember? the quick ones)

is still ballasting the grade between Lone Mountain and the Sierra Curvada.

under the supervision of inspector L.A.Zyman, at the breathtaking speed of 30 to 60 foot per day the crewforeman K.Nowall urges the crew on.

I’m replacing bad track, and rebuilding switches as needed. Building a ballasted deck girder bridge for the short bridge over the approach to Oakhill. Need to build a retaining wall for the new spur at Underhill.

Korm… Your construction/maint. crew must be from the same Union as ours. They eat a lot and have to take a lot rest stops on the progress of our R.R. LoL.

That one neat R.R. Logo… Tells it all.

Bob, When you get it all done, swing by out here and show how it done on our. laf. Our progress is like Korms.

Course you may have to help us move Pennut.

yeah, cats…

mine has conquered a chair. nobody now is tolerated to sit there.

maybe you should build a passing siding around the covered part of the bridge.

I have been really busy reading others work and wishing I had time to attempt some of their projects that look like they will fit in my RR. Waiting on a shipment from RLD, should be here mid week, a rail bender. Waiting on 1:29 scale, or are they considered guage, survey crew to show up to survey right of way, then when temps are over 100 by 9am, I will contemplate laying track… or at least think about where it will go. But first a Saftey meeting for work.

Rules for working outside in Arizona,

#1 ALWAYS keep any metal tool in the shade until it is in your hand

#2 never use anything metal without gloves

#3 stay inside when its hot out. I cannot follow that rule, so we will see if I can have any progress before fall.

#4 drink lots of beer water

With these in mind it may be a while before I can start a build log or show much progress.

Been working on a few projects.

Finished the painting on my Rio Grande Motorway trucks. I’m still working on the decal artwork.

Here’s a link to progress photos: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/25172/rio-grande-motorway-trucks

Found a wishing well at an antique store (listed as doll house furniture). I scratch built the top portion as I didn’t like the top it had. The chain is all I had at the moment but will be changing that out for some “rope” soon.

Cause instead of being on here camped out, I have been outside working on the railway. Built a tunnel out of some moss covered bricks as I am tired of cutting back a bush that keeps encroching on the right of way, now the tunnel can let the bush overgrow the line and not hit the trains. Also spent the better part of 2 hours pulling weeds and changing some building locations. As soon as I rechange batteries, trains will be running this evening. Better weather always slows down the forums, with folk’s kids in spring sports, outdoor time on the railway or other “honey do” projects, its all normal to be slow here or any other forum. Cheers Mike and Michele T

I look in a couple of times most days, but as other commented it seems quiet.

I guess the reason for that is the same for most of us in the northern hemisphere in that we are getting the railroad in top condition (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)for operating in the warmer - and drier for some of us - months.

The winter was poor here, cool with lots of wind, gales often (twice this winter 100mph. winds were recorded on the headland) which made railroading an unpleasant event - especially for older folk like me. The last few weeks the weather has been good for operating and so most afternoons trains can be seen moving around the back yard. I find this early part of the year a busy time, not only for repairing any winter damage to the ROW but my ballast is a wonderful place for the germination of seedlings. Consequently as plants and bushes, not to mention lawns, burst into their summer growth there is much to do. This work, whilst mostly rewarding and enjoyable, has to be spliced with the 'honey do’s which we all know have to be done for harmonies sake.

There have been no structure builds as I have nowhere to site any more and nor have I purchased any more stock. The only thing I have done is to change a five car Bachmann 3bay coal hopper set back into Bachmann couplers. I had standardized on Aristo ones that being the make of most of my stock, however, as Aristo items are now rare the change over gives me some spares in case they are needed in the future. I have been tempted to buy some remaining Aisto stock which is still available in the UK but better judgement said “you have enough already” besides I have no more storage space!

I do have a helper these days. Last year a family moved in next door and the little boy, nearly four, is a true ralfan. So he comes over to “assist” in any way he can. He is of course a Thomas fan as well but I have no Thomas stock. He has seem him on a nearby 1:1 Heritage RR so I guess he is happy with that.

Well, my big news, is that I am getting my ECLSTS purchases up and running to spec. In other words, its not big enough news to post. I may be posting something soon, but until then, the P&CS channel has no new news to report.

I have been busy with a few projects, Log Loader, finished installing RC battery into my street car, running trains in between the rain. For those with Facebook accounts probably have seen my updates. I have been slacking with my posts on here, mainly because Im not on my laptop as much. Facebook seems to be easier with posting from a smartphone. The FB train group have been very active.

Facebook is for babbling women …your new RR looks great but would be a lot further if you quit doing this crap… …You never did tell us the new additions name! He/She will love diesel locomotives and steel rolling stock I can sense it!

I’m still having a bit of trouble getting back into the modeling mood.

Haha Rooster, you guys need to stop being so afraid of Facebook. There is a lot of great stuff on the train pages and very active, especially with photos and videos. I keep saying its so much easier to share things. I can be running trains, snap a picture and within seconds I can post it.

The new addition is Savannah Autumn Rose

Shawn, Thats your best pic so far.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Great photo Shawn. I love babies. They are such little miracles. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

To me, Facebook is a very different animal.

Here, you can look for and share information on specific items. It’s easy to review a thread from beginning to end to learn or understand.

In facebook, it’s like you have Alzheimers, (sorry), one minute there is a topic, the next minute gone, there’s no organization, structure, nor easy way to look back.

I’m here to help and learn. I don’t need to brag how many trains I have, or ask questions about how to use a computer, or cute pictures of animials (although I do enjoy the rooster pictures).

So Facebook is not my “shtick” no offense to those who love it, it’s just too little for what I want to give to the hobby or get from the hobby.

Oh, what’s going on?

  • levelling sidings that had 5% grades so cars would roll out and fowl (rooster) the main.
  • Learning my Zimo DCC system and programming new QSI Titan files with the “emulator” enabled, really great sound.
  • Clearing out and giving away stuff I do not use, and figuring out how to get my Aristo steamers back on the rails without running 20 minutes and slipping a driver.

Greg

Shawn,

Congrats. That gives you a pass.

To stay away from anti fecces book arguments, and keep on the subject of “What’s going on”…

My contribution is to bring attention to a new Canadian Bheer, right up a “Railroaders” spur line;

Sleemans has a new product: “Railside Sessions Ale”…the IPP&W will have it in the crew lounge fridge this weekend, to test its qualities.

and…USTrains is showing a brief hope that there is still life in Large Scale, with the announcement of new switches. Lets hope they don’t have the same faults, or new ones, of other switches from the past.

Fred Mills

That’s cool. The box is nifty also.
