I have a high side Bachmann gondola kit that I’m putting together.
I painted it tuscan flat red.
I also painted the under carriage the same color. I let the trucks And wheels the original color. (Black)
I’m considering letting the grab irons black so they stand out.
I would like to hear other opinions on the color, or any suggestions would be helpful.
I almost forgot I put in a wooden floor.
This car wont be outside for any length of time so I didn’t drill any drain holes in the floor.
I will put a flat clear coat on the floor.
Thanks in advance.
David
Ok maybe some pictures will help. The floor is made of good old brand new popsicle sticks. I purchase them from a local craft store by the box of 1,000 $5.00 and double width 500 per box @ $5.50

The step are red. grab irons are black. what do you think about that?
I like the Bachmann hoppers. Fairly good detail, sturdy, and a reasonable size, even for a short car in 1:20.
Definitely black grabs, since generally they ended up rusty, if painted at all. Paint is slippery!
I agree with Bob go with the black.
If you want old rusty try raw umber. It’s very dark brown with a tiny hint of green
If your car repair facility paints with brushes they weren’t usually painted for safety reasons.= rust
If your car repair facility sprays, they weren’t usually masked because it took too long. = body color overspray
Ok I finished the gondola today. Here are 2 shots of the finished gon. Oh rats I forgot to move the building I was working on all I need to finish is the roof and some solar lighting, and the floor.

I actually like it that way. I have been thinking about building some flat cars to pull with my Forney. Any one have pans or drawings of 20 to 35 foot flat cars. and a work caboose. David
You’ve been busy
So what is the building going to be?
Ralph
General Store if I get something for the roof.
I was going to glue aluminum to luan plywood but that didn’t work out.

The store is made of thin slices of wood from scrap 2x4’s glued to the frame vertically .
Windows have clear plastic folder for glass,
and covered it with clear semi gloss finish with UV block to protect them from sun rays.
Door knob is head of a used white aluminum nail.

Goop will glue just about anything except coreplast.
The aluminum is too thin it tears easily.
I have plans for a 22’ flat car 1:22.5(G), plus plans for a work caboose in 1:20(F). Email me if you’d like copies…

Thanks!
Nice truck.
I was at Home Depot yesterday found some items I needed.
I found this 2x3 ft. sheet of Coroplast Polypropylene Sabic Polymersshapes.
for about 6 bucks a little much but maybe useful.
I also got a solar yard light.
I’m having a bit getting it apart though. I think it’s winning the battle.
Now I could use a Bud Lite.

Ken Thanks! Nice truck.
Too bad I’m doing late 1800’s or I’d spend money on something like that. I do like the old trucks.
I must have driven them in a previous life or something.
