What do ya figure my parents might want for the headlight's LED?

Working on Bachmann G Durango & Silverton passenger set for my parents for Christmas -
backdating locomotive from coal burner to wood burner and improving some details. Actually bought it early last year, but oh well, I’m slow!

Let’s see, 99.3725% chance it will only be going around their living room Christmas tree instead of their garden.

What do ya figure they might want for the headlight’s LED - 3mm yellow-glow; 5mm yellow-glow; 3mm super-bright; 5mm super-bright; or 10mm super-bright?

Personally, if it were mine, it wouldn’t even BE a question - 10mm super-bright, 20deg cone - lights up the neighbor’s house!

wood burner with kero? the larger yalla

What? Are you saying that you don’t want me to blind Mom in her rocker?

No, just giver her a light tan.

10 yellow

sorry should have put 5 not 10. Me bad.

I haven’t found any 10mm yellow-glow or warm white, whichever.
Then again, haven’t looked all that hard either

10mm pretty darned big to put into a headlight. It’ll fit, but you’ll lose pretty much all of any reflector that would be there. 3mm or 5mm would definitely be better. I use a 2mm warm white for all my headlights. Its a bit “bright” for the older kerosene lamps, but considering they only really burned them at night (why waste fuel when it’s not needed?), it does match the color at night. Check Christmas Light strands which are now on store shelves. Lots of LEDs for very little $$.

Later,

K

That's where most of the 3mm and 5mm came from on clearance after last season. 10mm is a new buy from Radio Shock.

Mostly, for my own stuff, I just plain want the brightest which can be acquired without too much expense or effort.

Wail till you see what I’ve done with a HLW Sparky and Mack.

I'm okay with that. PRR 4-6-0 is going to have 3mm or 5mm HL moved to backup light and 10mm used for HL.
