I read about shapifyme, a place you can send a virtual image of yourself and have it printed in 3d. The figures in the LA Times story look small, so I’m wondering if they can be scaled up. Also, it appears that you use Kinect to scan your body into your computer. Can you just connect this device to your PC, or do you need an Xbox too? BTW, according to the newspaper article these custom figures ain’t cheap–$59 with free shipping. But if you’re trying to score points with the super, what’s $60 bucks at Christmas?
I was sent a link to the site the other day. Interesting idea. It looks like it uses the Kinect 3D camera to scan you body. Not knowing anything about the Kinect I cant say if its usable on the PC, but their site indicates that it is.
That said, there are other 3d scanning services out there. And with the price of 3d printing falling like a rock, it seems to me that its only a matter of time it gets reasonably priced. Imagine all us LSCers trading figures of ourselves to work on each others railroads…
And the fine print said 1/20 scale

I dunno, Bob. An ugly figure of me on your railroad is probably gonna scare everybody away! I guess it might be a good way to keep nieghborhood kids out of your yard.

I can imagine something like this being set up at a show…
They scan you with the Kinect, then in a couple of weeks you get your figure.
I think they need to adjust it for different scales…
Not sure I’d want a figure of me

Well at 50, overweight and born ugly is there a reverse process where I can be made to look like one of the young fit figures available? Will need 1;1 scale of course. and I think $60 would be a bargain.

I hear they are close to perfecting full body transplants. Just need to find a well built young male organ donor who died from head trauma and stick your ugly head on there. Probably a good idea to have your wife done first!
Can I get a healthy 18 year old body?
Only in 1:20

Just for you Steve:
Here’s an article about it:

I think it’s only a matter of time before someone such as Preiser starts using this process to create prototypes for commercial figures. It would be easy to dress someone in any type of clothing or period costume, pose them as desired, and scan. Then print out in all the popular scales and use to create molds.
i have printed some figues for testing ouside, dropped the one on the left and killed him
I could be setting in and running my favort Loko on my layout. Just as if it was a 1:1 scale.
