That would be PC. I actually liked the PC. So I decided to take an undecorated USA Trains single door 60’ boxcar and do some modifications to it. I made the new door and a half as well as reshaping the lower side sill and making new sill steps. Then I bought some Scalecoat II spray paint from the PC historical society and applied it directly to the unpainted plastic car. This was my first time using Scalecoat and was very pleased with the finish. So much so that I may use Scalecoat as my new paint from now on. Here’s the result:
I’m a PC fan too, the car looks good. Ive done a few Evans cars up in PC paint maybe I will try one of these.
Is it a standard USATs 60 fter with a door change? or did you do other mods to it.
Scalecoat paint you say?
I might have to try it.
I’ve had bad results trying to paint directly on the plastic used by most manufacturers.
Though I’ve not had anything made by USA Trains.

Nick,
I modified the lower side sill which caused me to have to replace the sill stirrup steps. I also removed the door tracks and made my own. Additionally, I removed the upper dimples on the ends, when I decal an end I’ll post a picture of it.
Ralph,
Just a word of caution. Scalecoat 2 is designed for plastic. Scalecoat 1 is not…
It’s a cool build Brian, Doors look great. How you fellin ? getting better?
Nick
Nicely done…
Nick,
Yes, feeling much better. Still a ways to go but I can talk, breathe, and the chewing is getting better every week.
Cool!
I liked the PC as well!!
Brian, Very nice and I’m even a Pennsy fan!!!
Scalecoat is a great product for painting trains. I used to do a lot of custom paint work and that product rarely gave me problems. You will need an air brush and good ventilation…It is an enamel paint and its best to use their thinners. Dont mix scalecoat 1 and 2 paints and thinners as the are incompatable with each other. Scalecoat 2 is especially designed for plastics. Not a plug for them just my experience.
Theres a PC historical society, who is he?

So I was puttsing around the forums and saw this one and realized I didn’t post the end picture that I promised so…here goes:
Enjoy!
Brian, beautiful looking car…
Being a steam guy, I’m not particularly a fan of modern equipment, but I’ll stop to watch any train, anywhere, even if pulled by diseasels… and for sure I recognize good modelling when I see it. Beautiful work, Brian! Thanks for sharing it.
PC… That would be Politically Correct… Not a fan…
Victor Smith said:Yeah hehehe there probably are a few people interested in PC and it is not too late. :/ :P
