What degreaser do I use?

Tearing down a second generation A/C FA-1. What do you use for a degreaser or cleaner before you re-lube?
I have pleanty os non-compatable cleaners/degreasers I used to use on lionel and other metal trains but none plastic compatible. All ideas appreciated

Dave,

I use cheap Wal-Mart wash clothes to wipe the worm gears down & dish soap on the gears on the axles…
Let dry & relube…

Thanks Bob,
I guess I’ll need to wash them somemore.The old grease is almost like vasoline in consistancy and residue was left after first washing with Dawn.I need to get rid of all traces as this is prep for repaint also.

WD-40 works well as a de-greaser…

Thanks for the tip. Does the WD-40 leave a residue?
