What DCC decoder do I need

I am STILL thinking of going to dcc What decoders do I need for motor control or for motor and sound ?
I know that QSI makes a good motor/sound decoder.
I also know that the Phonix is a good sound system.
BUT what else do you recommend ?

I have:

  1. 1 Aristo center cab diesel
  2. 2 Bachmann “annies”
  3. 4 Aristo eggliners

For the center cab what 1. motor decoder or 2. what motor/sound decoder?
For the Annies what 1. motor decoder or 2. what motor sound decoder ?
For the eggliner what motor decoder?

Thanks for the help
Richard

Richard,
I’m not a DCC guy. But I’m surprised nobody has chimed in to help you out.
Sometimes a post will get overlooked. Maybe someone will see it now.
You might also try Greg Elmassian’s web-site. All kinds of DCC information there.

Thanks Ralph for bringing the post back to the top

I have talked to a couple of people about MY needs and this is what they came up with;

Center cab diesel, and the “annies”…Digitrax DH465 with SFX004 for sound
eggliners…Digitrax DH123d motor control only

If any one has any other recommendations please feel free to tell me
I will not be double heading anything (NO MU)
I will not be running fast only have 4’ dia. curves.

Thanks
Richard

The Bachmann Annie and the eggliner can use the Zimo MX646. This small DCC and sound decoder has a 3 watt amp, and 6 function keys plus it is programmable.

And for the price of $119.95 is much less than a separate motor and sound decoder pair.

I have one in my Stainz and another in a 2090. The 1 amp rating is fine for DCC controlled motors. Many features for light control on function outputs are available.
