What a difference 100 years makes

Taken around 1910 or so. Notice the ship/barge canal on River Left.

Celilo Falls was drowned by one of the many dams on the Columbia River. The barge canal still exists, but is no longer used because of the lift bridge. This bridge carries the Oregon Trunk Line of the GN/BN/BNSF north from the Deschutes River Canyon to the SP&S/BN/BNSF river line at Wishram, WA. Uncle Pete runs parallel across the river from Portland, OR to Hinkle, OR.

Most interesting shots Steve. Of course many here would say that I should well remember the 1910 scene myself. hehe!

Thanks for the posting.

I’ll have to keep that spot in mind, whenever the next time is I get out to my son’s place in Oregon. Awesome looking site!

I love “How it was and how it is” photos!
