Ahhh, retirement…
You’ve been watching Campo, Klegg & Foggy?
What am I doing ?
Well it’s a short story; I’m sitting here using a union finger to type out whatever you see in this short note, along with scratching my …, blowing my nose, delinting my belly button, and wondering if I should visit the litter box.
I hope your day is less productive; less stressful; more restful, and more fun than mine is proving to be.
Geeze…while this thread was going on I was boltin a new turbo on a Saab 95, tuning a Volvo S-80,returning messages left on the phone that start out (DAAAVEE…my car is broke ) and thinking I can’t wait to retire. You guys are making me rethink that whole picture!
Thanks!
Well, I got a front coupler back on my Live Steam Mikado. When I got it back from rebuild, they had replace everything above the metal wheels/cylinders, so had to re-engineer that. Got a couple of cars with new couplers to take to Marty’s and packed up a tote of them for the mike to pull. Packed up the UP streamliner set to take down also. Made a cd cover for a friend, had done a cd of age sixteen songs for our granddaughter and he wanted one for his that will be 16 soon. Read some, was raining, so had to be indoors. Repaired my Bachman shay, air pump had fallen off, taking it to Marty’s to sell, never do run it.
Ran trains all day with a few good friends.
I’m a trench digger. Well, normally retired. I’m running underground electrical so I can power the tracks for those that don’t have batteries. This wouldn’t be a big job but I’m running electrical to the train barn and that’s 200 feet from the circuit box! I know the end is in sight. I tunneled under the second mainline yesterday. Next, build a bench to sit on!
Well at least some of you retired guys are making good use of your time!
…are you suggesting, that some of us that don’t dig trenches, don’t pull wires; indulge in enjoying a bheer, whine, or Whisky; scratch ourselves when we feel an itch; read in the throne room; are free to do as we may without answering to a “SWMBO”; don’t tolerate screaming reproductions of some intolerable people; we who are able to slow down, smell the roses, and enjoy life without guns, big vehicles, and lawns that have to be up to some neighbours’ standards…are not enjoying retirement…or is there something in your drinking water that causes your problems…!!!
Today I planted a tree to replace two that I cut off at the base…sorry guys. Not big ones, just 4 footers that were too large for the location. They do grow , in spite of not being watered, fed or bothered with… My lone cactus is doing well, and seems ready to face the normal Winter ahead. Yes they grow up here too…
Now for a dram or three of a good Whisky…ain’t retirement grand…!!!
Just think of what you miss NOT digging a trench!
I have two feet left to finish and I can play at being an electrician. I’ll see how it goes. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I seem to recall digging septic tile beds…before I became involved with other more affluent activities…!!!
Effluent make some people affluent.
Let’s see… wasted an inordinate amount of time online; picked up my brother and dropped him off at the dentist, went to the office of one of Cris’ doctors and picked up some sample meds; went to the local hippy store and picked up some vitamin E; dropped the meds and vitamins off at home; fed mealworms to a couple of lizards on the front patio; went to the grocery store and picked up a couple items; had a little time to kill so I went into Home Despot and found some trim tiles that will be very useful on my next structure; then picked up my brother from the dentist’s and took him home; returned home to drop off groceries and help Cris with a couple things; then went to my favorite restaurant (Chili’s) and had my favorite meal (bacon burger w/fries, diet coke, no ice, w/lemon); came home, changed clothes, did a couple more “honey-do” items; fed some lizards in the backyard; ran the train around the layout and turned on the building lights; wasted a little more time online; worked on some details for my current structure project; looked up some info for my brother; spent a little quiet time with Cris; worked on the structure project a little more, and that pretty much brings me to the present moment, in which I’m wasting still more time online writing this overly long message.

Yesterday, I started off slowly, and then tapered off. Today, I intend to do the same.
