Welsh Narrow Gauge Superpower weekend!

All the best toys in the box were there this last weekend in North Wales - the Welsh Highland Railway celebrating Welsh narrow gauge Superpower!

Double-headed Fairlies, TRIPLE-headed Garratts, a Jung compound, a replication of the L&B ‘Lyn’, Ffestiniog’s own ‘Linda’ and ‘Blanche’ and more - all under grey skies and drizzling rain - a bit like our dear old Oregon…

Here’s a couple of links.

Great kudos to the posters of these two great videos, the Waldrons…

TAC;

Thank you for the links. That train with three Beyer-Garretts was certainly impressive. I had to smile at the scene that included the sheep. It seems that the sheep have gotten accustomed to steam trains. They hardly looked up from their grazing.

I remember when I was a car host for the NS steam excursions, the cattle over here were certainly not used to 611 and 1218. The passing of a steam excursion would get the cows running,

Best,
David Meashey

Dave, you gots to remember that local sheep have been used to trains hereabouts since around 1860 or so.

Best

Oh man Tac, I’ve said it before, you guys in the UK have the coolest “toys”. The videos are great. What gauge is the line?
Going back to enjoy it again.

Nominal two feet gauge. And yes, I wish I could get over there to play.

Very cool. Thanks for the link.

Tac, great vids, I remember the last time I was there, rode several narroe guage trains.

Paul

Yeah, as Chris note - ‘nominally’ two foot gauge. For reasons that elude me totally, the builders of the many Welsh NG lines seem to have been unable to regulate the tracks to two feet. So we have 1ft 11 1/2in, 1ft 11 3/4in , 2ft 1/2in and so on… What was so outstandingly hard to do was to set the track at TWO DAMN FEET.

BTW ALL the former ACR Garratts are now running on the Welsh Highland Railway - a truly wondrous sight for NG Super-power fans. Might be just the excuse I need to get another one of my own…
