Weird bike

I saw a couple kids riding really bizarre tandem bicycle the other day. Normally, the seats are inline, but on this one the seats were mounted on opposite sides of the bike! There were two sets of handle bars, though it appeared that only one of them was linked to the front wheel. There were also two sets of pedals, in a crankshaft sort of arrangement.

I wish I could have gotten a photo of it. It must have been custom made, because I haven’t found anything like it online.

Seems like it would be necessary to get on and off of it simultaneously, to prevent tipping over. And riding alone would be impossible – you’d need the other rider to maintain balance.

Sounds like marriage :)

There is a subset of bicycle enthusiasts that can come up with very strange and sometimes very efficient forms of transportation. Its a hobby.

not sure if this is it!

That bike would work for me with my limited vision. Someone could see what’s coming and steer and I’d help pedal!

That type of bike is known as a “Sociable” and was invented over 100 years ago

…and it is a very dangerous bike to ride, especially on a crowded boardwalk or on the street and its also alot easier to upset the balance of the bike on rough roads, Theres a reason you dont see any around anymore

Just put a catcher on it so you can catch the pedestrians!

It looks like it would be hard to keep ballance on any truns to. But a neat idea… and I don’t think you can ride it by yourself??

Doug… Catcher is a neat idea if you can go fast enough to boot people out of the way with out a wipe out. laf…

That’s it!
