Weathered SD40-2 in action

Got it outside for a run yesterday. I need to get the handrails back on it, but it’s done. I like how it turned out. I also set out a few buildings where I want my main street. Just a test fit, nothing special.

Nice work. The buildings look good.

Excellent job on the SD-40, Sir. Subtle instead of well overdone, as we see all to often. I like it that you remembered that in real life there is no such thing as ‘black’, and used shades of grey on the running gear instead. Mighty impressive.

Thanks Andrew. I think that’s about how I want to line them up. I thought I had more downtown buildings than that…guess not. lol. Now, to find time to build the town.

Thanks Tac!! Yep, not much black on it. A little on the radiator screens, fans, and smoke stack. But even then, it’s not much. I tried to just highlight things and make it grimey. The trucks and fuel tank stains I followed off a prototype. Well, not quite, but close. Good enough for me. It should look fitting in my coal train.

Yea, years ago I replaced black with charcoal for most of my model work. It looks whole lot better. But I still use black for models of freshly painted equipment.

Looks great !!

David, I used quite a few different colors. The sides of the engine are a grimy grey. I realized I forgot to post finished pictures of it. I’ll try and do that tomorrow after work.

TMI cuz,… T…M…I. LOL!!

Thanks Dan!
