If this passes with Article 13 unchanged, its likely that I will have to block the entire EU from LSC. I have neither the money or the time to build/buy/manage any kind of copyright scanning system for LSC. I kill them when asked, but there’s no way I will read every post and investigate every image posted here for copyright violations.

I quote

Online content sharing service providers perform an act of communication to the public and therefore are responsible for their content. As a consequence, they should conclude fair and appropriate licensing agreements with rightholders.

That makes me responsible for copyright violations you do.

And if/when it comes to the USA ?

Any thing is possible, but there is already a gigantic pile of case law on the side of “Website owners are not responsible for their user’s content”. They could try and change that, but then businesses like Facebook and Twitter will fight it tooth and nail.

Does Public Domain have a role? A common rule was; as long as it was shared for educational vs. economical purposes, it is ok.

I often grab less than full resolution, in the belief it avoids the copyright, am I dreaming?

I pity you and others providing a service at cost.

Bob

Worst case could you set it up so that EU users cannot post pictures or videos but still have all other abilities? Or perhaps only post pictures directly from the freight shed here (assuming it all original pics.)

Stupid lawyers and greedy Hollywood elitists afraid they will loose a penny of royalties.

To hell with the zombie apocalypse… I am looking forward to the lawyer apocalypse when it will be okay to shoot all ambulance chasing, frivolous suit filing, class action shysters!

Just completely nuts! Both the hyperlinking and the copywrite rules… just plain insane… If it holds, it will take many forums offline immediately…

Yea. I can’t imagine that they will do this without getting a ton of feedback from forum owners and companies that run shared forums.

europe never had that rule.

don’t forget (specially today) europe does not have citizens, but subjects.

Well, the forum owners need to complain to their advertisers and let them lobby against this, because that is where the money is…

Gone, at least for now.

So LSC gets to stay unmolested for a while longer. That’s good news.

This thread emphasises why a percentage. a small majority of UK citizens, voted to leave the EU and its expensive bureaucrats. 751? lawmakers on the gravy train for two years and still its stalemate!

There was a HUGE amount of chatter about this in some site owner forums I read. Most of it was “I’m gonna have to block the EU”. From reading articles about it, it sounds like the big guns like FB, Google, Twitter, etc, did a huge push against it in the last 48 hour or so.

Ahh… like I said, money talks… Greg

There was ‘big’ money for and against. It hasn’t gone, it will return in September. How the vote goes could well depend next time on how F/Book. Google, M/Soft etc. handle things. Bad publicity for them could swing it the other way.

However, as with most things there is always a way around it all,

Not to worry chaps…the way the EU is going at the moment …is downhill…dissent rules!..and as usual, they blame the UK

That lot on the continent could not organise a p** up in a brewery never mind try to run Europe to their ideas. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

The way I heard it is that since LSC already had “Rooster”, the EU decided that was already more than enough, so they would forego any new requirements.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
